Something just feels not right.
Sucking (what little bit she had..) regression.
She has a small cough, that's still there every now & then.
She's sneezing too.
Last night, she slept from 10:30ish (ate at 9) to 1:45 before waking up, and then she fell back asleep (didn't eat) until 3.
She eats almost always at the 2 hour mark, sometimes 1 1/2. Rarely at night does she go to 3 hours. Going 6 hours is just..insane.
Of course I felt bad I didn't wake up & make her eat.
However at 5:30 she started to move around and so I got up and she's only drank an ounce, which took 30 mins and she is OUT.
Can anyone offer me advice on what I should expect the dr. to do ? If she has a virus maybe her throat is hurting and thats why she's not wanting to eat? I want to know what I want from them before I go, so that I don't get frustrated or feel like it was a waste of time.
I guess I atleast expect bloodwork, I don't know if it's too much to have an upper Gi done to see if she has something odd going on in her digestive system.
I've noticed she has ALOT of gas, even though she's not super whiny about it, i've been giving her gas drops with every meal.
Thanks so much.
ETA: Just double checked bottle, she only drank a half an ounce at this feeding. I'm starting to enter freak out mode. Besides a virus, I don't know what could be wrong.
I just checked her temp with a forehead scanner and it was 97.7 one side and 97.8 on the other. I know she doesn't have a fever. I'm literally going into panic mode..and I don't know why. We do have a children's pediatric ER about an hour away that's dedicated solely to peds. I don't want them to think i'm some psycho mom, but after Peyton I know when to trust my instincts. Gah, this sucks!
Re: I guess a pedi visit is in order...
FAQ: My Friend Just Had a Preemie, How Can I Help?
If you feel something is wrong, in my experience something might be- a mother's instincts are really in tune with her kids.
I would be concerned about dehydration at this point (if she's taking in as little as you've noted). Is she having wet diapers? Is she still pooping? Is it all normal in consistency and frequency? A trip to the doctors or the ER isn't going to hurt anything and will put you at ease.
Well, I took her to the Pediatric ER dept in Richmond. I didn't want to wait for pedi to open at 9, and then wait until this evening to take her. I wouldn't of had anyone to watch Peyton. Plus, if she needed labwork, I didn't want to get the results in 3 days opposed to immediate.
They were very nice and very quick. She saw an ER physician & also the head of the ER dept. She was sneezing a good bit & coughing while there, she also threw up once which she's only spit up once, ever. They think she's getting some type of virus, but she doesn't have a fever *luckily*
My grandfather is getting over something, he was pretty sick & didn't eat for a couple of days.
However, she went from little ms. lethargic to wide awake the WHOLE time I was there. I was just like well..i look like a liar lol She drank 2 ounces around 8:30ish and still hasn't drank again.
They weighed her with wet diaper & clothes on, but she still hasn't lost any weight since last week.
They also calculated up for me how much she needs to eat/day to continue to gain weight.
I picked up Peyton who is snotting and coughing everywhere so I guess she's getting sick again too. She basically has a cold 90% of the time.
Thanks for all of the support. I still kind of wish they would of done labwork but at the same time I don't want her poked & prodded for nothing.
If she gets a fever they said to bring her back ASAP and she will have earned herself a lot of tests that are going to suck.
