So I reported a few months back that I was applying for new jobs. I am currently a fourth grade teacher. I have been accepted into a program that trains new school leaders (principals and assistant principals). It is a highly competitive program and I feel really fortunate to be accepted. However, now I am faced with a serious dilemma. I am required to attend a summer training institute. It is four weeks long. It is highly demanding. Initially I just thought I would bring Quin with me and have family come to help. However, they don't cover family housing options and from the research I have done finding a place for us to stay would be incredibly expensive (more than $1000 for the four weeks). DH would not be coming with us because he has his own obligations at home. So now I am thinking about leaving LO here with DH and have family come to help DH instead of taking him with me. I can hardly stand the idea of being away from him for 4 weeks, but I am thinking at this point that the long term benefits (higher salary, more challenging career) far out weigh the costs. What would you do/think if you were in this situation?

Re: So torn...
I would do it. Hopefully you can get home at some point or have family visit for a couple days with your baby. If 4 weeks away will benefit you more in the long run I think it will be worth it.
I commend you on wanting to become a principal or assistant principal. I teach in Canada and no amount of money could tempt me to become one. I would miss teaching in a class too much and wouldn't enjoy the headache of admistrative/disciplinary work.

Honestly, I think 3-4 days in, if he wasn't with you, you would likely want to come home - or maybe I just would. I think making arrangements for someone to help you have DS there would be well worth it. I know 1000 is a great deal of money, but you might be able to make it back up in terms of your promotion, Or, could you put it off a year? Maybe "defer" until next summer?
Again, these are just outside opinions, so take them FWIW
