first and last name ending in same sound...

Wierd, or not?

Ex: Joel Strudel (similar to our last name)

Re: first and last name ending in same sound...

  • In that instance I don't think it sounds bad, it really depends on the name tho.  As long as it doesn't rhyme or mush together I don't have a problem with it.

  • Agree with PP about that particular instance, it's  not bad.  Now something like Julia Gulia from The Wedding Singer is just sad.

  • I was just thinking about this...we really like the name Paige but our last name ends in 'ridge' .  I think its ok because it sounds different, but I'm still  on the fence..
  • I don't think that one is too bad. Our last name ends in -ella (very Italian) so I wouldn't be able to do any of the Bella/Ella names (not that I want to) and I was worried that any name that ended in -a sounded weird but we are going with Susanna if its a girl and it doesn't sound too bad.
  • I tend to like names that end in the same sound, as long as it doesn't actually result in the names rhyming (like Julia Gulia, etc. mentioned above).  For example, our LN sounds like Dexter, and I like a lot of -er first names like Peter, Harper, etc., but I wouldn't actually pick a name like Baxter - that's just too close of a match.  So, I think your name works - the letters have a nice symmetry to them, but the names don't actually rhyme.

Our last name ends with "-ider" so it rules out names like Ryder (not a fav anyway).  But my DH loves Oliver and I still don't know how i feel about the "er - er"

  • We have this same problem.  We have a two syllable last name ending in 'on'.  Do you know how many two syllable first names there are ending with 'an' 'en' or 'on'.  NONE of them work with our last name.  Especially with so many of them having a soft 'a' sound in the first syllable (just like our last name).
