What can you guys share with me about delivering at this hospital? I've heard the general "it was a good experience". But just thought I'd look a little more into it.
I saw online that it's private L&D rooms- but nothing was mentioned about PP. Are these private also?
Anything special to know about.
I will either be using this hospital or the new Methodist that's opened. But I wouldn't tour or be able to get really good info about that for another couple months while they are getting all the kinks out of opening the new place.
So far I'm leaning towards MHKaty
Re: Memorial Herman Katy
Loved the hospital. Loved it. Even when I went there a couple of months ago for an ER visit I loved them.
All of my rooms were private from LD to PP. I had a different kind of PP room because I had hemorraghed and lost half of my blood so had to be watched carefully but the next room I was in was a regular room and it was private as well.
I also had to be rushed into an OR room and can't believe how nice and supportive all the nurses were. I was freaking out and they were so sweet calming me down.
The food is wonderful. The LC is great. I had a wonderful experience. All the nurses were wonderful and so very helpful.
I don't know what more questions you have but feel free I to ask.
As the previous poster mentioned, all the rooms are private. The nurses were all very sweet and made me feel at ease.
I started out in my L&D room where I had to be induced (I actually had a scheduled birth due to my low fluid). Everything was done in the L&D room until DS was having issues coming through the birth canal and I needed an emergency c-section. In that room there is a full bathroom and a couch type bed for Dh or whoever, as well as a chair for visitors.
After the c-section, I was put in the recovery cubicle. I ended up having some issues, so instead of going to the regular post partum room, I ended up in a Anti-partum room, probably the same place as the PP poster. The difference between a anti-partum and a post-partum room is the number of nurses staffed. They staff more for anti-partum because those of us in there need more attention/monitoring.
After I was stable, I was then put into a post partum room, Both the anit and the post partum rooms have tvs, chairs, and chair/couch like beds for whoever maybe staying with you. You also have a big bathroom. The mom also gets to order room service from their fairly large menu.
Dh and I were both very happy with everyone we came in contact with. My nurses, you could really tell they cared for their patients, particularly my main nurse ( i say main because I had her her entire shift while the others i had I was there through parts of their shift.) My main nurse, Leslie, went above and beyond when i was in recovery. She refused to leave my side, desite her shift being over untim she was satisfied that my issues were well taken care of and I was ready to go to anti-partum even though the next nurse on duty was there.I really appreciated that dedication.
If you want a more detailed account of my birth story, I can send it to you.
YES! Thats what it was called. I totally forgot. I just know I got 'special' attention but didn't remember what it was called.
I also forgot to mention my nurse Jenifer was so wonderful. After I had Olivia she came to my room that next day to visit us and told us how much she cared for us (I had a scary delivery) and how she had no idea the cord was wrapped around Olivia and that it was going ruptured etc.
If you Dr. J. Tell him and his staff Erica and Olivia said hi!
Will do! I really hope I get him, he's my #1 choice. I'm just worried because I have to have Lovenox and I need it now. So I really hope he sees that in my records and prescribes it otherwise it's gonna be a fight lol.
Just talk to him about your needs. I saw a RE (who was Dr. J's friend) and Dr J watched me very closely. I told him how worried etc and he listened to me. Just be upfront about everything and he will listen.
Good luck!
Tough call...I think they are both great hospitals. I have some friends in the nursing profession and they always speak very highly of Methodist, although since this branch will be new to the system, it's harder to say I think. My obgyn when I lived in the city delivered at Methodist and I had to go a few times to the hospital and it seemed like a top notch place.
For my delivery at MH Katy, I had private rooms for both delivery and PP (in fact, my PP room was a HUGE corner room). I felt I had great care there and felt comfortable during my stay. I had a wonderful experience at MH Katy, but I was least satisfied with the breastfeeding help. I delivered on a Monday but I found that every nurse had a different opinion, which got me VERY frustrated. I ended up calling a LC to come to my house and help me after I got home. I would not hesitate to deliver there again though or recommend it.
