FedEx vs. UPS - a ridiculous tale

Several months ago FedEx claimed to drop off our $300ish carseat (lie) without a signature.  I called the company we ordered from and complained, they sent out a new one immediately and we had it delivered to DH at work.  Several days later the original one was at the doorstep.

::flashforward to today::

I caved and bought Evan a Sophie ($17 from Amazon) and UPS wouldn't leave her without a signature.  Now I'm trying to figure out how to get her/how to get them to deliver it when we're home to sign for it.

  • You should be able to sign the paper they left telling you they couldn't drop off (see the back of it) and leave it on your door (assuming you want them to drop it off).

    Otherwise, you can go to your local main UPS facility to pick it up.

  • You should be able to leave a singed note that says for them to leave it.
  • They will likely have your residence flagged for one year, signature-required in person only.

    I work for an online retailer and this is what they do for us (without our involvement, it's because they ate the cost of the carseat so it's their deal) and I don't think there's much you can do about it unfortunately.

    There's no paper on the door. I checked the yard and everything.  IDK where it is unless the crazycakes neighbor took it.  When I called the local place he told me where they were located and it's 20 min away over by my school.  He told me to call the 800 number - 10 min later the dude told me there was nothing he could do and that the local place would call me before 9:29am tomorrow.

    As I was typing this the local guy called back and said that the box was damaged so the guy wasn't supposed to leave it.  Delivery guy accidentally hit the wrong key on their little thing so it was supposed to say "damaged" on the tracking - not attempted delivery.

    Local guy said the product wasn't damaged - the box was just ripped a little so I'm just going to pick her up tomorrow on my way home from school.

    Good grief.

    In our situation we returned the extra carseat to the company. We get deliveries all the time w/o signatures from Target, ON, American Eagle so IDK if we're flagged or if Sophie is just precious cargo enough to need our sig ;)
