Preview of the "snail trail" (TMI)

So I had heard about the "snail trail" that is coming in the next few weeks, and I think I had my first sighting today.  It was seriously like (TMI, sorry) green/yellow snot.  So weird and gross!  It wasn't constant, but nothing I've ever experienced before.  Anyone else started having this yet?

  • It's starting to get a bit more, but nothing like I had with DD later on yet. It is seriously nasty.

  • I really don't like you because now I want gummy bears. :-P

With DS I didn't really have it...... until the time it was so much I thought it was my water breaking so at (37 weeks) rushed to the hospital to be told it was either snail trail (in nicer terms) or I peed my pants...

  • You guys are lucky.  I've had it since before I even knew I was pregnant.  I've been wearing a liner the entire time.  It's way worse for me this time than it was when I was pregnant with DD.

Hopefully one of the 2+ moms can clarify for us, but from what I've heard, it's profuse thick vaginal discharge, hence "snail trail'.  Eeeekkksss!

  • Yes, it's nasty.  Vaginal discharge that resembles (at least for me) EWCM and can vary in color from clear to yellowish.  I've heard some people say that it has to do with the mucus plug forming or something, but I'm not sure how accurate that is - my doc always just said it had to do with our crazy hormones.  That combined with all-day m/s & exhaustion makes me feel pretty disgusting all-around.  Just one of the many fun aspects of pregnancy...

Oh, and it tends to get worse as you get further along.

  • It is exactly what haribo said. Gross vag discharge. Completely normal, though I've never experienced a green color, mines normally whiteish/tanish. But I know its worse for me this time around. As far as I know its basically the bodies way of staying clean and preventing infection.

Seriously....... it gets "worse" (oh and DH went to pick up a script at CVS and also is getting gummy bears)

So I was teaching at the time (now SAHM) and I went to the bathroom at lunch. Came out to a full faculty room with SOAKED pants... like down to mid thigh... and was like........ uh do you guys (all women) think my water just broke.

They all looked at me and were like...... uh yea...

So I call DH, he rushes to come get me.

We're all nervous and excited. Get to the hospital, monitored, checked, etc.... test the "fluid" not amniotic. Doc is politely explaining... well you either peed your pants or had excess discharge....

Yeah....... thank GOD I didn't have to get back to work that day and that it was a Friday. Went back Monday... oh no no baby... just peed my pants... lol (didn't want to really say it could have been "fluid")

I'm a second time mom and don't know what a snail trail is...
  • I have been wearing panty liners since my BFP in anticipation of the snail trail.  Yuck.  I know it will only get worse.  It was pretty bad when I was pregnant with DD.

  • So far I haven't had anything that would fall into the "green/yellow snot" range but my normal discharge has turned into a waterfall of unnecessary proportions. It's just awkward and I find myself going to the bathroom even when I don't need to pee just so I can change my panty liner.

  • Eeek! I'm glad I read this, too. But the funny thing is, is that I have noticed more discharge in the past week or so....I went all these weeks without any. Now a lot of the times when I use the restroom, I have a lot of "mucus" on the TP....similar in consistency to when I ovulate. Bleh. But it is yellowish. And in between bathroom trips, I sometimes feel wetness...and get worried that I'm experiencing bleeding.

But nope, sounds like the beginnings of the snail trail :|

Sorry, this was a gross post I just wrote....but...well, we're all in this together, right?!

  • This whole post and all the comments are bringing everything home to me now... gahhh!  Idea This is not a fun part at all! Oh well, at least I know I do not suffer alone! Smile

  • Whoa!  I had nothing to add to this the other day but read it and thought "Ew Gross..."

I should not have spoken too soon.

Tonight, I went to pee and when I pulled my undies down, I felt someting like a piece of elastic caught.  I thought my undies had pulled or something.  When I looked down, there was some serious "snot-like" material looking back at me.  I was like "WTF is that?"

Oh well, guess it's normal?  :)
