I brought this up a few months ago but can't remember responses. I am hoping to deliver at GBMC but I since my practice delivers at both, have audibly stated their preference for Sinai (and only 2 of the 3 are able to deliver at GBMC) I am starting to realize that I'll most likely be delivering at Sinai. I know either hospital will take excellent care of us but be it pregnancy hormones or whatever but I want to cry when I think about not delivering at GBMC. (Stupid, I know but I cry at most things these days!) I have had all our classes, ultasounds at GBMC, it's closer to our house and I am just more comfortable with the idea.
Anyways, my questions are: Are the post-partum rooms private at Sinai? Is there a sleep area for my husband to sleep on in the post-partum room? I really want him with me overnight and he wants to be there, too.
I'd love to hear any other experiences you might have had at Sinai. Their website is less than helpful in understanding the Labor and Delivery department. I am going to schedule a tour just to prep us for the possibility of delivery there.
Re: Question for those who have delivered at Sinai...
Yes, the post-partum rooms are private. They are small though, lol! There is a recliner kinda thing for your DH. He will be able to sleep there and use your bathroom, etc. You can order as much food as you want, so he can pretty much eat with you too.
(And IMO, the food was great!)
I had an okay experience at Sinai. I had an emergency c/s, which I was really unhappy about and I think it colored my feelings about Sinai, to be honest. I had a few overnight nurses that were not that great, but some other nurses that were awesome. There was a communication error (or something?) with their pediatrician about releasing DS when I was being released. She said "if he can go home with you" and we were like ummm, WTF? Why wouldn't he be able to go home with us? And then there were lots of very tired, hormonal tears on my part.
But everything worked out, DS was perfectly healthy and we all went home together.
If I were to deliver at Sinai again, I would request no student nurses. I know they need to learn and practice with patients, but they just took so long to do anything and I was so tired and could never get any rest because someone was always in my room.
If you are planning on BFing, the LCs are so wonderful. I credit them for being able to help me with DS's latch early on and being able to successfully nurse for a year.
I hope that helps a little!
Good luck with everything!
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
I also delivered at Sinai and aside from them screwing up the time of my induction it went pretty well. They actually let me labor for over 24 hours and didn't rush me. I have a great OB practice though that is very pro vaginal birth so I think that helped a lot too. Plus their c-section rate is much better than GBMC.
As for the post partum rooms- yeah they are small but the food is really decent IMHO. My husband could not sleep on the pull-out bed thing they had but my mom had no issues (my husband is a bit of a princess in the pea, if you know what i mean). We had fantastic nurses the whole time we were there, including in L&D. When we have our next one I'll be happy to deliver again at Sinai.
