Morgan is 3 weeks old today. I really thought that she would be getting better at eating..instead she seems to be making no improvement/getting worse?
Is this possible?
She's eating every 1 1/2-2 hours mainly at night and 2-3 hours during the day. She doesn't suck normal sometimes. She can suck, i've put my pinky in her mouth and it suctions, etc. However, its like she's sucking wrong to get milk out.
We've tried EVERY bottle on the market. The only ones she remotely can drink out of is the 4oz dr. brown's. (not the 8oz, even with the same nipple)
Sigh.
I don't know if I should make a special dr. appt, I mean she goes back next week, probably Tuesday.
Even the nursette bottles, which she was doing good with, she's sucking all wrong on now.
It's frustrating, because obviously i'm not sleeping anyways, and it's taking her twice as long to drink half as much as she was.
I'm so confused, plus worried about what it could be..
She has 0 spit up, burps pretty regularly. She does have gas, but I give her gas drops before each meal & she doesn't have any type of crying/whining.
ETA: its like shes not swallowing, but milk isn't pooling in her mouth so I guess its a sucking issue.

We had to use the slow flow Madela nipples on the cheap Gerber bottles. For the first little bit with DD the nurses had us pulling the nipple out frequently during the feeding. Initially it was to remind her the swallow part, then, as she got stronger, we were trying to get her to suck harder and resist us pulling it away. We were also told to do the same with the pacifier- give it a good tug frequently to make her fight back by sucking harder.
(Or maybe your LO is frustrated by the slow flow nipples and would like something a little faster to help her out?)
I would take her to the pedi if she's losing weight- they may want you to switch formulas to something with more calories until she masters eating. GL.
I was also going to suggest this. We use the Dr. Browns bottles too, they are the ONLY ones that Allie will take. They do have preemie nipples. I don't know how much your LO is taking at a time, but they also have 2oz bottles. I wish I'd figured out about the 2oz bottles when she came home, we definitely would have used those.
I have tried level 1 & 2 nipples of, avent, dr. browns, born free, playtex vent air, wide & standard, and gerber.
The only ones she was remotely drinking ANYTHING out of was dr browns level 1. Other than that she had been drinking from the 2 ounce nursette bottles, but she's now drinking 3 oz and that was getting expensive.
Today my gramma kept her and said the only way she would eat was with one of the nipples from the similac nursette on a dr. brown's bottle.
UGH! I think the preemie nipples would be useless bc she seems to need it to come out fast.
