Talk to me about consignments....

Everytime I go to a consignment store or "event" I find nothing but crap....yet not at crap prices? What am I doing wrong? I told MIL that I'm tired of going to them because they are a disappointment and a waste of time (LO HATES when I look at clothes....must have got them from DH). She said you have to really hunt, but yet she comes home with some ugly worn out stuff, so I feel doomed.

I went to a huge one today and got 5 gorgeous dresses for Izzy....for $20. I think you've just had some bad luck...or you are too picky. LOL

Do you have to be there when the doors open? Haha, I didn't think I was too picky, maybe that's the problem. I just don't want anything worn out for practically the price of a new item.

I'm with you. I hate them. I want to love them, but every time I go I find nothing. If I do find something that's cute I could buy something similar at Walmart brand new. Once in a blue moon my mom will send me something that she's found in one, but she says the same thing, "you have to have the time to go in & really look". I don't have the time!

I have gone into some where the prices are sky high. Just right under a new price. We do have a Once Upon a Child here and I love it. I have heard that some are hit or miss though. Our will have $1 sales on things sometimes. I may pop in during that time but don't expect to find anything. All the "good" ones are taken. I have however hit a good deal before where I got 30 outfits for only $10!

I've had great luck-we have some nice consignment stores and 2 giant consignment sales each year. I have always gotten clothes in great used/brand new condition.

I was j.k about you being picky, I am too. All the clothes I got are in great condition.

we have great consignment stores around here! I got my nearly new jumparoo there for $35!! They are also a great place for barely used cloth diapers by us. I have never been to any of the "sales" everyone talks about- I cant find them bu me. But most clothing items at the consignment baby store are less than $5. And our local one had a $5 fill a bag sale this weekend that was amazing!!! Good luck!

THIS! I love Once Upon a Child! They have one about 4 hours from my house, but if I'm down in Fort Collins, I have to stop! I've found a bunch of The Children's Place clothing and several pairs of Osh Kosh B'Gosh overalls for my little lady under $20.

You have to be selective on which stores you will do it at. Do you have a Once Upon a Child..they are picky on what they will take. There are like 5 consignment stores in my town, but I will only shop at 3 of them, the other ones have thrift store quality. Keep trying, I hope you find a gem!

To get really good deals, you do have to be there as soon as the door opens. Within an hour, most of the good stuff are gone! check out Mother's of Multiples around your area. They hold 2 sales, one in March and one in October every year. It's the best consignment sale that I've been to (been to about 10 of them).

I have gotten a used McLaren Techno stroller for $130, a papasan swing for $40, a jumperoo for $5, bumbo chair for $5, etc. The key is to be there early!

I never have any luck and when I do find something tha is acceptable, it's too expensive. I usually just shop Macy's, Children's Place, Gap & Gymboree when they have an additional percentage off. Most of the time, I get new itmes for less than used ones. I'm pretty frugal so I won't pay over $10 for anything for her unless it's a church dress or the squeaker shoes that I am purchasing.

My chiropractor told me about JBF-Just Between Friends, and she said the sales are good. Google them and see if there are any sales in your area. I'm close to St. Louis and there is one coming up this weekend. I'm probably going to give it a try. Good Luck!
