1. If you added cereal to formula for reflux purposes, how much did you add? DD is currently on Up&Up AR, but is having some major constipation issues lately (as in waking in the middle of the night and screaming for hours). She doesn't like pear, prune, or apple juice, which was suggested by the pedi. She still has her tongue thrust reflex, so spoon feeding solids hasn't gone anywhere. I am thinking of going back to regular formula and mixing it with oatmeal instead of rice. How much per oz though?
2. The last few days, DD has been majorly fighting sleep. This morning, she was up from 5:30 until 11:30. I finally got her to go down for a nap by plopping her in her crib while she was screaming so that I could go deal with DS. Five minutes later, she was quiet and asleep. That makes me think that maybe she doesn't want to be rocked to sleep anymore, but putting her in her crib without rocking also makes her scream. I know 4 months is a little early for Ferber though. What would you do?
ETA: She was obviously exhausted, because she's still asleep. Please tell me that she's going to sleep tonight.
Re: Two unrelated questions
I am no help to you on question one, because I have a question for you...
It turns out the my DS (your DD's age) probably doesn't have reflux, we gave up on the Prevacid about a month ago. However, because of his dairy sensitivity and general tummy problems that may never be explained, I will be asking at his 4 month appt. tomorrow how to (and how much) add cereal to his soy formula. So I guess I'll find out tomorrow! I have a question for you - how does the thicker/cereal-ful formula get through the nipple - do I buy the nipples with the bigger holes?
When DS fights sleep it is often because he wants me to put him down or stop rocking him. I wonder if that's what she is "telling" you - that she doesn't need as much rocking anymore. I've had a few occasions when I've walked away from DS crying in the crib, only to come back and find him asleep. I wouldn't call it "cry it out" technically because I wasn't deliberately standing around letting him cry and choosing to not pick him up. So I think that kind of CIO is not only fine, but necessary when you have other kids to attend to!
Let me know what you find out about the cereal!
DD is on level 3 nipples already, and yes, I think it's because of the thickness of the formula. Any time we accidentally use a level 2, she won't eat more than 2 oz. Lazy girl.
did you try using a medicine dropper to give her prune juice? i had to give DD something for a fever last week and i used the medicine dropper and let it drip down into her mouth via the inside of her cheek. she was none the wiser.
dark Karo syrup will make her poop
oh bummer! that's the worst, when the spit it out, b/c you don't know how much they actually got.
