Infants and the movie theater?

So I've been looking for things to do with my 5 yr old DS during the day while I'm home with LO, and there are a bunch of good kid movies coming out. Anyone ever bring your LO to the movies? DH says it will be too loud. Otherwise seems like the perfect thing. Its dark, I can feed LO if I need to, and theres barely anyone there for matinees during the week. What do you think? TIA!

Re: Infants and the movie theater?

  • My mom said that she took me all the time while she was on maternity leave.  She said it was perfect.

Children's movies aren't usually that quiet anyway!

  • I would look into kids theaters. There's one by us that is baby friendly. They keep the volume lower than normal and the lights are not turned out all the way.

We also have a drive in theater not far from our house so we'll be hitting that one this summer for some non kid movies.

I have a feeling we'll be hitting the drive-in this summer too. It's literally a few doors down from our house so it's not too far to go and DD wouldn't bother anyone if she was with us.

I wouldn't want to take her to the normal theatre but I have no reason to see a kid's movie. I think it might be different if I was, and if it was a matinee - she sleeps pretty much all afternoon.

  • I am glad you posted this!  I was thinking about this the other day.  I feel like any matinee that is showing a kids movie is going  to be full of kids and parents.  I wouldn't think they would be bothered by a little fussing or even crying for a short time.  If you do go, please repost and let me know how it went!

  • I would look into theatres near you, here in Canada the Famous Players all offer something called Stars and Strollers during which the theatre isn't as dark, and they offer change tables in the theatre.  Usually 2 movies per week are shown.

  • Since my LO has been born we have gone to see Harry Potter, I am # four, Mars needs Moms, and one other that I dont remember.  Ember has slept through the movies with no problems, a few times she has woken up to eat and I can nurse her in the dark easy as anything.  As long as you take your little one out if they get fussy this is a good thing to spend time on.  As they get older and demand more attention, you won't be as free to enjoy movies though...
