Two Under 2

another stroller post

I know you get tons of questions about double strollers, i checked 7 pages looking for answers and thanks to those posts I know what to ask next. please humor me and share your wisdom!

Did you find it really useful to have a stroller that works with your infant seat? Seems like many just wear their youngest, so I wonder if it's worth the extra expense.

in that note, did you find you needed the double stroller right away, or would you have been ok waiting? (as a side note, LO2 will be born in May, we may want to be out and about during summer)

For those whose LO1 is very visual (mine is, loves looking around during walks), did you have complains from them being in the back seat of tandems? or did you set them up in front? I ask because it seems like there's more room for an infant seat in the front, which would mean LO1rides in the back. I'm fully aware that I could be wrong!

last one: which one is your absolute favorite ?

If this helps, our LOs will be 16 months apart, boy and girl

Thank you for your replies! I mostly lurk but find great comfort knowing I'm not the only one that freaks out at this stage.

Re: another stroller post

  • Mine are 12 months and 18 days apart.  We had a double stroller (the BJ City Select) from the beginning, but I mostly wore DD2 until she was about three months old.  Now she is five months and we use the double a lot.  We do have the infant seat adapter and it is very useful for us.  We walk to church, and it's particularly useful there, because she is usually asleep by the time we get there, and we can just carry the infant seat into church.

I do not recommend the City Select for a number of reasons that I won't go into right now.  But one of the reasons we initially chose it over the Phil and Teds (which have the second seat in the back, behind the first seat) was because we didn't think DD2 would enjoy staring into the back of the seat in front of her.

We were wrong.  We are currently borrowing a friend's P&T and DD2 LOVES sitting in the jump seat.  We've heard this from everyone else we know who has a P&T, and I didn't believe it, but apparently kids think it is super fun to sit back there.  She looks around from side to side and takes everything in.

We will be selling our CS and getting a P&T.

  • DD & DS are 22 months apart. DS was born in January so hard to wear in the winter. We love our Kolcraft Contours. You can turn the seats around & it fits almost any infant seat. It's heavy but must doubles are. I have used it for over a year (DS was born in 2010). We are expecting #3 in October & will still be able to use it because it has handles for kids to hang onto. We use them know when DD wants to get out & walk.
  • Ours are 15.5 months apart and my DD (#2) was also born in May.  For the first 2ish months, we mostly used the single and I wore DD.  We bought a Bumbleride Indie Twin, which has the carseat adapter, but I rarely used it.  For walks outside, it was too hot to have her in the infant seat over the summer, and I rarely use the double stroller when I am going somewhere in the car (I bring the snap and go and DS helps me push, or I wore DD and have DS in the single stroller or shopping cart).  So for us, it was not necessary to have the adapter at all.

I will say, when we started using the double in August, I couldn't believe we waited so long.  It is much easier to push the two of them than it was to wear DD and push DS (especially in the summer when it was so hot wearing a baby!)

I have no info on the tandems, since we don't have one, but we love our side by side...we can fit through most doors, and the kids love sitting next to each other.  We use it at least 3 times a week, throughout the winter with the snow and everything.

  • Mine are just under 18 months apart.  I didn't think I would need the double right away but it turned out I did. I live in south florida though and the weather is great so getting outside for me in the beginning was a must...I hate being couped up those first few months so this allows me to get out and about. I thought I could wear DD2 but I found I liked just putting her in the stroller too, giving my back a break and going.  I wear her alot around the house though.  Her sister loves having her next to her.  We have a side by side so I don't know about the tandem question.  I like having the carseat attachment.  Finally, we LOVE our bumbleride indie twin!  Hope I answered some questions.

  • Mine are (not quite) 2 years apart.  I didn't get a double yet but I've decided on the Britax B-ready.  I wish I'd had a double from the beginning.  I planned to wear DD but she doesn't really like it so instead I've just been avoiding going anywhere/doing anything where I'd need them both in a stroller!  I like how the Britax has the ability to put the infant in back so DS can sit up front and look around (while not kicking DD).  It also looks easy to fold, compact, and easy to push.  The BabyGizmo video review on amazon sold me.
  • Started using the double at around 4 months and never bought the carseat attachment. (We have the City Mini Double.) Before that we were both kind of nervous to take both kids out alone so we had the carseat in the carseat frame stroller and the single stroller--we each pushed a kid. Now we use the double a lot, even if I take the Ergo for once we get to the park.
