Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Did your LO take the same amount of milk in bottle vs sippy?

We started with whole milk in sippy yesterday vs. formula in bottle before that.  DD has been drinking only 3 oz of milk each time whereas she drank 7 oz before that.

Did you face this? Will she eventually increase her intake? She seems fine and full (is milk more filling than formula?)

Ped said we could start milk between 11-12 months.

Advice?

thanks!!!

  • We started Noah at 10.5 months.  He doesnt drink as much milk from the sippy at all.  once they hit the age of whole milk usually they should be eating more for meal times.  I find Noah eats meals and snacks and has drinks throughout the day.

  • No way!  DD will only drink and oz or two at mealtime.  It's like she's started focusing on the food ever since we dropped the bottle.  Now I have to give her the milk before the food or she'll just eat the food without drinking!

  • So is 10 oz of milk enough? She was taking in about 20 oz of formula.  Is she is feeling full, should I not worry?

I am almost tempted to do the bottle a bit longer.

If you can get her off the bottle without any issues do it!  LOL  Noah is 16.5 months and I CANNOT get him off his morning and evening and bedtime bottles.  It drives me nuts!  He loves his bottle.  But maybe just do bottles before bed or in the morning?  I know Noah would down a 6-8 oz bottle first thing in the morning or 6oz before bed..maybe you could try that?

  • Out doc said my daughter should be drinking about 16 oz of milk a day. She gets a sippy in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one before bed. She usually drinks 5-6 oz. I think the difference is, she won't sit down and drink all of it at once, like with a bottle. She'll carry around the sippy for 30-45 minutes and slowly drink it (except the one before bed. She drinks that kind of like she did a bottle). We don't do milk with meals anymore, because she doesn't eat very much when we do that.
