Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Did anyone move late in their pregnancy?

DH rejoined the military and we will be moving from TX to FL when I am about 7 months preg. So my question to any of you that had to do this is, how did you preprare? Did you call different OB's before you moved to find one? Rely on referrences? Did you find it difficult to change doctors that late in a pregnancy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • I thought your question was going to be about the actual move itself. We moved across town when i was about 6/7 months pg and it was H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS!!!

My feet were killing me, my back was sore and my ankles swollen forever!

My advice regarding the move: DON'T MOVE A THING!! Pay someone to do it all.

Sorry, no advice on the drs. bc we didn't have to switch drs.

Oh, luckily we do not have to move a thing. Actually we don't even have to pack anything if we don't want to. If that was part of the deal, I would probably stay behind until the baby was born!

  • I moved when I was about 7 months pregnant.  I waited until we got to our new town to call doctors- I had to see who was covered by our new insurance.  I had no trouble at all.  To make it easier, my first OB let me fill out a form giving them permission to transfer my records before I left, even though I didn't know where I wanted them sent.  I just had to call to let them know once it was all figured out.

I did with ds (I was 30 weeks when we moved).  I did call dr's beforehand because I didn't know anyone in the area to get recs from (I was not on military insurance at the time).  Are you on Tricare Prime or Standard?  If you're on Prime, I think you'll have to wait until your dh checks in at his new station to update Deers and then your Tricare region if you have to, and then get assigned a new primary care who will refer you to an OB.  But if you're on Standard, you should be able to find a new dr. and schedule an appt. whenever you want.

One thing I did that I would suggest doing is have your dr. physically give you a copy of your records to take with you in case anything happens and you need to go to the hospital/urgent care, etc., and to give to your new dr.

I didn't have any issues except that I had just taken the 3 hour glucose test, and my old dr. said I passed, but my new dr. was more strict and said I failed, so I ended up being treated for GD.

We will not be on Tricare until he gets to OCS next month, but I think we are sold on standard (plus I can stay with my current OB on standard until we move). Were you in Pensacola when your DS was born? That is where we will be so just curious if you have any recommendations. It is still early but I feel like I need to be as prepared as possible when the time comes.
