North Carolina Babies

So...maybe this explains it.

So, Holly has some dry patches/eczema on her inner thighs, sides, back, butt cheeks and tummy. They are so dry and rough, and I know they're uncomfortable. I mostly chalked it up to the cold air, and tried to keep the spots as moisturized as possible. It occurred to me last night as I was slathering her with Cetaphil cream and putting on her Pull-up that the irritation might be caused by the Pull-up. All of the spots are pretty much right where the Pull-up touches her skin. She was never sensitive to diapers in the past, so this never occurred to me.

Last night after I tucked her in, she did get out of bed. But she went straight to her her dresser, pulled out some undies, closed the drawer and starting pulling off her pants. Maybe the Pull-ups were uncomfortable to her, and she just wanted them off? So I went in there and helped her take off her Pull-up and put on the undies. I tucked her back in, and she didn't get out of bed again, and slept all night. I left before she woke up, but she's been waking up dry 95% of the time, so hopefully she did last night too. I'll admit that the Pull-ups have been a crutch (for me..hehe). So, maybe we're done with them.

So maybe, just maybe that at least explains the clothes removal part of her antics. She slept in her bed all night last night, Sunday night (after DH went in there one time), and Fri and Sat night at my parents' house in a toddler bed they recently got for her (which she thought was SO cool..hehe).

So....help me find some wood to knock on and let's hope I didn't just jinx myself. But I do feel bad that the Pull-ups have possibly been irritating her. We'll see if the spots clear up after not wearing them for awhile (assuming she stays dry at night and we don't have to go back to them--we'll try a different brand if we have to do that).

Anyway, just thought you were probably dying for a status report, so..there ya go. Big Smile

  • That sounds VERY plausible to me.  Hopefully that's it!  We had a hard time with the pull ups at first too, but b/c of the fit and Eli hated the velcro on the sides.  So we actually had him in overnight diapers for awhile.  Didn't seem in hinder his daytime PT.  Now he's back in pull ups b/c he's bigger and the larger size fits better and doesn't seem to irritate him.  Hopefully Holly will do well in underwear though and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

FTR, Eli still goes through phases of getting up at night for apparently no reason, so just keep that in mind if she starts waking again in a few months.  But I'm so glad to hear she's doing better!

  • Wow wouldn't that be something if that was it. I've had similar a-ha moments where I'm like wow so that was it. Parenthood, you literally can learn something every day. I find it more true even the second time around lol.

Oh yeah, I'm sure she still will get up sometimes. I don't mind her getting up, and eventually getting back in bed, or heck--even the sleeping on the floor, really. I'd rather her not sleep naked (because I'm sure she's cold). But mainly it's the wrecking her room just to be a little sh*t (because she knows she's not supposed to!) part that I hope will stop!

I hope that stops too!  Maybe since she's not so uncomfortable she won't be mad anymore and won't do that.

  •  Poor Holly and hopefully you have cracked the case.
  • That definitely sounds like it could have been contributing.  Natalie actually got a lot of bumps and rash issues on her inner thighs when we started potty training also.  For her it turned out to be the toilet paper was irritating her (she has pretty sensitive skin anyways) so I now have to stick with only one kind of toilet paper that doesn't seem to bother her.  If it doesn't clear up for Holly by just not using the pull-ups, try a different toilet paper.  The toilet paper may be causing it too and the pull-ups were just irritating the area even more.  good luck!
