Baby Names

For Your Enjoyment

Part of my extended family makes me need to avoid baby names that start with K or a hard C sound.  Here's why:

My aunt had 5 children:  Kevin, Keith, Clinton, Kurt, and Ken

Each son (except Ken) has had multiple children:   Cade, Kayleigh, Cole, Kody, Karson, Colton, Calix, Gabrielle (yay!), Caleb, and Cooper

For fun, their last name also starts with a K.

  • Am I the only one who thinks giving your kids names that start with the same letter or names that rhyme, is just really annoying and weird?

Not at all! I think it's weird too. My first daughter's name begins with an S and if this baby is a girl my mom's favorite name for her also starts with an S. I'm kind of iffy on matching the two.

I hate it too! However, DD's name is Grace but I love the name Grant for a boy.  I don't know if I could ever use it though because I think giving your kid's names that start with the same letter is SOOOOOO annoying!  Ugh...

  • I actually didn't mind my five cousins having names with the same letter.  It makes them roll off the tongue.  But then they all kept up with it and it's just too much.

  • I really like Grace and Grant but it's just just the first letter but the first 3 that are the same!  It's not so bad if it's not intentional.

Growing up I lived next door to an evangelical family and their last name started with C so the 6 boys all had J names so their initials were JC like Jesus.  That's a bit much.

A friend of mine married into a family with a last name that starts with M and they are 3 generations into M names for the kids.  That's A LOT much.

  • One of my cousins kids all start with C and have 7 letters...

The extra annoying thing about those names is that she altered spellings to make them 7 letters.  Courtny and Coleton look super strange.  I just want to take Coleton's E and give it to Courtny so bad!

I very nearly spit apple juice all over my computer at that! Hilarious.

As for the topic,  yes it's annoying. I find it distracting.

How the HE** did Gabrielle sneak in there? Did I miss something?

Haha, you didn't miss anything.  I guess they just really preferred Gabrielle to anything with a K or C.

That's exactly what I was about to say.  That whole c/k thing is definitely too much.

  • For this reason, DS2 cannot be Caleb. DS1 is Cameron and our dog is Cabo. Too many "Ca-'s". And also cannot be a "D" name because I'm Ashley, DH is Bobby. I don't like themes or anything that looks like we did it on purpose.

  • They're trying to give the Duggars a run for their money only using the letter's C and K?

  • I also think its weird to use same letter ...but we are doing it! yes, we are those people.

DH's name, my name, DD's name, DS's name, my mom's name, my dad's name, and my brother's name ...all D's

  • my sister-in-law's family is like this.  her dad/uncles are:  todd, terry, ty & tim.  their children are:  tara, t.j., taylor, trevor, trey & tyler.  there are even pets named tanner & toby.  sil broke the cycle & named the first grandchild a name that (gasp!) starts with an L.

I don't think having two kids who have names that start with the same letter is bad.  Once you start getting 3 and 4.... it's too much!
