Tennessee Babies

Moving to Murfreesboro/Smyrna from AZ

Hello! My husband and I will be moving to TN in the near future and I was wondering if anyone can recommend any of the following:

 1) A GREAT female OB

2) A particular hospital in the Murf/Smyrna area best to give birth at

3) Any birthing/labor classes in the area

Really appreciate your help! I don't know a soul in the area!

  • I just wanted to let you know that if you don't get any responses, there are some girls that live around that area of TN that hang out on the Attachment Parenting board, they would be able to advise you!

Good luck, I hope it all goes smoothly!

  • I use Dr. Bratsch at Murfreesboro medical clinic. I love her. Her office staff is small and personable.I see the same faces every time I go there and they always remember me, my issues and problems, etc. Its not like alot of OB's where your one of the hundreds they see every day. She works through Middle Tennessee Medical Center which just built a brand new facility and looks awesome!

  • I see Dr. Dana Jones's NP, Nan.  I've only gone for regular GYN appointments but really liked her.  Two of my friends have seen Dr. Jones and Nan which is how I ended up at the office.

We moved to Murfreesboro last April and love it!  Hope you will like it as much as we do.

  • I go to the same office at Lilliebelle5, but I see Dr. Sovana Moore.   Their practice is called Women's Health Specialists and it's a practice with 4 doctors and 2 practioners (all female).  Their located in the DuPaul Building attached to the hospital in Murfreesboro.  I really recommend them.  I have seen the practioner, Nan, before as well and she's pretty good.  I haven't seen the other doctors, but I have some friends that have had their babies delivered by the other doctors and have never heard any negative responses.  The OB's website is www.whstn.com and their phone number is 615.907.2040.  I'm going to be taking the classes that the hospital (Middle TN Medical Center) offers in May.  I'm also planning  to take their breastfeeding classes in July.  I'm not sure how their classes are, but I thought I would mention them.  You can find out more about them and schedule them at www.mtmc.org.  Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • My OB/GYN was Dr. Taylor from Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (not a woman) but he was not on-call until day 3 of my recovery post-C Section. Dr. Bratsch was the on-call doc during my recovery and I thought she was very attentive and personable. I really enjoy the staff of MMC. The doctors and nurse practitioners are wonderful and I've never had any problem. I gave birth at MTMC and we had some great nurses but a few really ticked me off. Also, since my doc was not on call when I had to have an emergency C-section, the doc on call was a real nut. He didn't do anything wrong, but he was all over the place like he had ADD or something. His nurse (I wish I could remember her name) was the one that noted I needed an emergency C-section and probably saved my son's life.

  • hi,

First time mom here, I also use Dr Jones of Women's Health Specialists in Murfreesboro.  They recently moved their office and it is right beside the new hospital(opened Oct. 2010) Middle Tennessee Medical Center.  The hospital offers tours and classes.

  • Good to know they moved! I figured they would but was at the office for an appointment 6 months ago.
  • I currently live in Smyrna & my OB/GYN is Dr. Louis Riley with LifeSeasons OB-GYN. He has been fantastic through my three miscarriages & my current pregnancy (I'm 6 months this week).

They are located at the StoneCrest Hospital. Although he is not a female doctor, there is a female OB in his practice and her name is Dr. King. I have only briefly had to deal with her but she seems very personable and concerned even when called after hours. StoneCrest also offers birthing/breastfeeding/other classes regularly. Let me know if you need any additional info, I will be glad to help!

Best of luck on your move!

  • I have a male OBGYN, but I've heard VERY good things about Dr. Hamrang in Smyrna. I had my first child at Stonecrest Medical Center in Smyrna, and I loved it there. It's a GREAT hospital. I am pregnant again, but will be having this baby at Middle TN Medical Center because they just built the brand new hospital and I want to see what it's like, plus it's so much closer to my house now that I've moved. Let me know if you have other questions about the area. I've lived here most of my life.

I see Dr. Hamrang at Stonecrest, and I absolutely love her and her nurses.  This is my 1st baby, so I'm still learning about all of the classes that they offer.  I know that there are a lot.

Here's some information from their website... https://stonecrestmedical.com/our-services/maternity.dot.

    Good luck with your move!

  • Just to give you another option, I travel a bit up to Nashville and see the Vanderbilt Nurse Midwives. I LOVE them and had really positive experiences with them. They also have a Centering Pregnancy group. (You would deliver at Vanderbilt in Nashville.)
