Single Parents

This is funny. Ok actually it's sad. The dumbest thing I've ever heard....

Come out of my ex husband's mouth is this:

"I don't know why you would expect me to do anything above and beyond what the court order states."

*this was in reference to me asking him if he wanted more time with our DS*

::blank stare::

On the flip side of that- he told me he had errands to run this past weekend and asked me to pick up DS two hours early.  I was super psyched to get my snuggle bear back and have extra time to play outside with him. :):)

  • I thought you had several orders of protection against your x and that he was only allowed to contact you via text?

What is curbside drop off and if you have a restraining order, I think it's crazy that have a restraining order and still have to see him even when picking up/dropping off.

    I know right?!

It's a total clusterfvck to say the least. For the record- I am NOT okay with this. We tried to get a court official to do drop offs but they are backed up by like a freaking year.  We're trying to make it so when we do drop off during the week (when I go into the office and don't work from home) - that he picks up at my work - where my dad also is.  There is literally nobody that can (or wants to) go anywhere near him.  Court will not take away visitation, I have custody, but I guess since he didn't actually chop of a limb or kill me, it's not valid reason for visitation to be rescinded.

It's a mess.  A total mess.  Tons of back story, but feel free to ask questions, I'll gladly answer them.  Just so much to type.  :)  Sorry to sound so obtuse.

Oh no, I wasn't doubting you or anything! I just think it's crazy.

It is.  It's totally looney tunes.  I didn't think you were doubting me.  :)  I do want to get the whole story out, but it would take a novel the length of War and Peace to do so.... I can't wait until this nightmare is over.

  • Ugh..you're right that's so sad that he wouldn't want more time but based on the little I've heard of your back story that may be a blessing that he doesn't want the time.  I can't believe they wouldn't take away visitation if he became violent (even if not with your DS)!  I really hope this nightmare ends for you soon!

I know exactly.  As my lawyer put it- even people who murder their wives still get visitation with their kids.  And this makes absolutely no sense because chillin' with a murderer is not exactly what I would peg as being in the "best interest of the child."

I think this is where the custody/shared custody v. visitation thing comes into play - the law seems to consider the right of the parent to have contact with the child when it comes to visitation whereas the litmus test with custody is the best interest of the child.

I can't imagine having to let my daughter go spend unsupervised time with a man who had been violent toward me...  Hugs to you for having to deal with that.

    I mean... its nuts.

The clarity that comes with being strong, refusing to back down, and standing up for what is right is amazing though.

It sucks sometimes, but I am so relieved, happy, at peace, to have my life back, peace of mind, amazing people in my life, a happy home, and a totally hilarious little kid who is virtually unscathed.  thats the stuff life is made of. :)  He wont ever take another second of happiness away from me. He doesn't have that power anymore.

But if he hurts my kid...... mama bear will come out
