2 year-old party timing???

We just got invited to a birthday for a 2 yo.  The party is on a Thursday from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

Is it just me or does that seem pretty late for a 2 yo?

  • Nope, not just you.  I would guess they are trying to accommodate people who have to work and commute, but if it were me I just wouldn't have it on a weeknight.

Yeah, even stranger is that it's the manager of our daycare so you'd think she'd know younger kids have an earlier bedtime.  I feel bad not going, but it's 45 minutes from home and bedtime is no later than 8:00 around here....not getting home until after 9:00 might now work so well.

Do I suck it up and throw off our schedules for a night of fun or just pass?  I'm leaning towards not going because I'm worried of a sleep-deprived break down Sad

  • Seems like and odd time and day for little ones. I'm usually pretty flexible on Connor's schedule for special occasions but that time coupled with the fact that it's a weeknight would probably make me not go or at least not stay for very long if I did go.

  • I think it's weird that it's on a weeknight.  But given that it's on a weeknight, I think that's the only time that would work so people can get home from work.  Unless it were my best friend, I'd probably bail.

  • That's crazy but whatever.

  • Cruz goes to bed at 10pm when he has had a nap so if she has one like mine maybe that is what she is thinking?  Weird though to not just have it on a weekend!

Yeah my kids are late too, so they could do it, but I know my kids have weird schedules, so I wouldn't ever try to get other kids to stay up late!  :)

  • On the bright side -- she (or an employee) would get to "deal' with my cranky kids the next day.

I think I'm going to skip it though -- I cannot imagine getting them to bed at 9:30/10 and then back to daycare by 7:30.  Plus I'll have to fight to keep them awake on the 45 minute ride home.  They aren't the type of kids to fall asleep in the car and then into their cribs to finish sleeping.

Boo -- I really wish it was a better time.  It's at a bouncy place and I know the kids would LOVE it!

  • OMG at a bouncy place that would super wear them out!  They would definitely fall asleep in the car!

I agree with everyone else that it is super late and a weird day. I can see skipping it. If your kids don't transfer from car to crib (bed), that would be a nightmare. But I also agree with Jill that a bouncy place would wear them out! They might surprise you during transfer.

Could you take their jammies with you, put them in their jammies before driving home, and then try and transfer them? This is what we do when we're out late. But, Max transfers seemlessly 9 times out of 10.

  • I wonder if the bouncy place is why - I've noticed some of them have certain time slots for parties.  My kiddo stays up late so it wouldn't be a problem for me, but that's probably late for most folks.

  • That is super late!  I'd be like no way, unless I was good friends with them.  Who has a 2 year old's party that late?
