Pregnant after a Loss

What to do when water makes you sick?

I used to love drinking water and would drink mostly water throughout the day but ever since my m/s has kicked in guzzling water makes me sooo nauseous, the taste of it and everything just ick.  Also it taste even worse to me because I gave up bottled water for fear of bpa so tap is even worse.  Any tips?  TIA :)

  • I used to fill a pitcher with filtered water and add sliced fruit. It's delicious. I used frozen because it was easier: peaches, raspberries, strawberries, sliced fresh oranges, lemons, etc.

  • I just had an appointment today and addressed this issue with my dr and she said clear liquids are what is important. She said if I have to I can drink sprite, which is perfect because my stomach can handle that. I couldn't hardly force myself to down anymore water. I am still trying to drink what I can but I am not going to make myself sick over it.

  • i used to drink Kool Aid. It's not the healthiest, but it will at least keep you hydrated.

  • I also started eating Pedalyte freezer pops, to stay hydrated. I was able to keep them down, when I couldn't stand water.

  • I find it easier to drink water if it is ice cold and with a straw. Even chilled water from the fridge is not cold enough, I have to add ice or it turns my stomach still.  You can stay hydrated by drinking juice, kool aid, even milk and soda- you just have to drink more of it.

  • Try it at different temperatures.  At one point, the only way I could stomach water was if it was super ice cold.  Also, try Ginger Tea (I like Yogi Brand).  It helps to keep you hydrated and also helps with settling your stomach.

  • I also did the Pedialyte Pops. The only way I could drink water was either bottled or filtered with either fresh fruit or flavor packets. My doctor told me that as long as I sipped all day, I would be ok.

  • That will pass because I went through that with two of my pregnancies.

    What worked for me:

    ice pops

    watery fruit (apples, watermelon, etc)

1/2 juice 1/2 water combo (I was concerned about lots of sugar so watering it down made it less sugary and much more tolerable)

tea (herbal pregnancy tea, iced tea, hot tea, warm water with lemon)

  • Water makes me gag lately too! I got lemon lime seltzer helps. Also,if it's not cold, like from the fridge, it's somehow better...sometimes I even make it hot and drink it like that and it help. Good luck!
  • I could only drink flavoured water for a few weeks. Try that, or as pp's mentioned, add fruit to your water.

  • I have always LOVED water but in the first tri it was making me feel pretty ick too. What works for me is making sure it is very cold. I know I have been driving DH crazy the last 6 months with the ice machine but that is the only way I can drink it. And its its not cold I just can't do it. Also I often sip it through a straw. And if all else fails then just squeeze some lemon into it.

  • I would drink 3/4 water and 1/4 Simply lemonade.  It somehow did the trick for me.

    Hope it helps.
