daycare costs in raleigh/cary, NC

Hey Ladies-

I'm trying to see if a possible job opening at a family friend's workplace is going to be even worth taking with all the costs involved for daycare (this fall he will go to my MIL montessori school and the costs there will be lower for us) for DS and my stepson (who we'd prolly put in day camp) along with the added cost of gas as its in Pittsboro. But i wanted to see what the rough estimate or range for the cost of daycare is in the Raleigh/Cary area so I can do a rought calculation.

thanks,

  • For full time daycare for us in Raleigh, it is $215 a week for the 2 year olds.  I believe it drops to $195 when he turns 3.  I did tours of a TON of places and the 2 year old range I found is about $200 - $275 a month depending on what you're looking for and the are (Cary was a little more pricey than Raleigh, WF is cheaper than Raleigh, etc...)

  • It depends on if you are looking for an inhome place or a center, or if you care if they are licensed or not. I have no idea if the price goes down based on age, but for infants I couldn't find anything lower than $1000 a month unless it was a SAHM situation. I feel like at Jocelyn's age she would not do well sitting at someones house all day and would probably do really well at a center with planned activities and field trips/etc.

This is a good point, we are in a center becase we felt he would get a lot more structre and we like the licensing/state regulations.  And if you go that route see about their extras.  We get Tumblebus for free and they do all kinds of neat stuff, like last week they had a magician come in for $2 extra O could go.  They are having a picnic on the 17th, when he is 3 they do soccer, etc...

  • Yeah with the age he is at I'd prolly look look at a center for him as that would also prepare him for going to school in the fall as well. I'm just looking for a range so I can see if this job's salary is even worthwhile esp. being the 25 mile (30-40min) each way and the cost of gas. X 2 in childcare. But i was thinking it was prolly 200-250 a week for Ds for childcare in a center.

  • We pay $900/month for the 2 year old classroom in Apex.
  • thanks ladies for the feedback. I now have to dccide if the amount of pay I take home will be worthwhile with that commute in a position I dont have any background in or too much interest.
