I've been stuffed up to the point I can barely sleep for the last 3 weeks. I'm at the end of my rope. I took some Sudafed (the real kind) yesterday, but it didn't really help. Is this caused by the pregnancy, or have I just been really unlucky and caught 2 really long colds back to back?
Re: Congestion?
I've been congested too. I've read that it has to do with your immune system being compromised during pregnancy (so your body doesn't reject the baby). The congestion is one way your body compensates. You might want to look into a netti pot.
Good luck!
I have been sniffley and sneezy my entire pregnancy! It's been worse lately- especially at night! As if trying to sleep wasn't hard enough, right?!
It's called pregnancy rhinitis and it SUCKS - I'm right there with you! I am SO stuffed up at night. I sleep with my mouth wide open and drool buckets lol...totally gross. Not to mention my tongue and gums literally hurt in the morning from being dry.
The only thing that has helped for me is taking a benadryl or unisom (the active ingredient in unisom is just another antihistamine) before bed - and I don't think it's because it decongests so much as it just knocks me out! But at least it's something. I have also given in and taken a snort of Afrin in the middle of the night a couple times because it got so bad.
Good to know that it will go away soon - thanks to the moms for giving us hope!
DH and I went to Walgreens tonight and did what must have looked like a hilariously classic pregnancy spree. Got a neti pot, kleenex, Tums, Benadryl, epsom salts, and Chunky Monkey ice cream.
I've done the neti pot twice already, starting to get the hang of it, and I figure I'll try it one more time before I "really" try to go to sleep, along with the Benadryl, prop myself up on some pillows, and hope for some restful sleep. I don't know how much more of the "waking up after 12 hours in bed feeling worse than when I started" I can take.
