shower: paranoid or ungrateful?

My mom passed away and my mother in-law is mentally ill so a friend offered to throw me a baby shower - in my hometown - 6.5 hours away by car - at week 34.  Do I buy some compression hose and leave a day early for it or is this going to be too much?

Re: shower: paranoid or ungrateful?

  • I'm traveling 4 hours at 35 weeks. I would think you should be ok. Just stop once or twice to get up, walk around, and stretch.

I agree.  Just be sure to stop to stretch and move around a lot and drink plenty of water (which will in turn necessitate you stopping a lot :)

I agree with this post!  Good luck & have fun.

  • Thanks!  It sounds dumb, but I need reassurance (from other pregnant women).

It happens to us all! I'm sure we've all posted once or twice (or more) for reassurance!!

I have already done it 2x today.  Enjoy your shower - you deserve a good time

What is the compression hose for?  Perhaps it's just something I've never heard of, or really apparently is something I've never heard of.

    TIA!

  • Go and have fun! I live 24 hours away from all my family and (most) of my friends and in a few weeks im making the long haul all the way up to PA. Just bring lots of snacks and take it easy and slow. Enjoy your shower : )

  • I'm travelling 7 hours at 35 weeks for a wedding....... we are staying a week long but the trip still seems daunting - I'm packing an emergency hospital bag just in case - but in all likelyhood, it'll be fine, i agree with PPs take the time to stretch and walk around so you don't get cramps.... and enjoy the shower!

  • I am doing the same trip, so I say go for it.  I am/ having my doc print out my records, in case I go into labor.  If I were you, Id also check with your insurance to see what they would cover.  With mine, Im fine as long as I am in network, so I will be figuring out all of the hospials along the way.
