Clean eaters- breakfast ideas?

:peeking in from Parenting...:

I have just started eating clean for a lot of reasons- my arse being one of them :o)

I need some ideas for breakfast- I usually do oatmeal and a couple egg whites for protien. Do you girls have any other go to ideas? Things I can make in advance would be a life saver.

Thx

Re: Clean eaters- breakfast ideas?

  • I have a couple:

    Quick and easy morning shake

1 cup skim milk (or lowfat soy, or rice milk, whatever you prefer)

1/2 cup frozen fruit (I keep mangoes, blueberries, and strawberries on hand depending on my mood! Or a mix of them)

1/2 a banana (I eat the other half)

I add a scoop of whey protein to help add some nutrients and add some substance. It is delish, super easy and customizable depending on what you like. You can also add a scoop of peanut butter or any other protein to add flavor.

Quinoa is also a great breakfast food and complete protein. Here is one of my favorite breakfast recipes - its a good substitute for oatmeal and also easy to customize. I use raisins, walnuts and cinnamon. For the liquid I use half vanilla almond milk and half organic apple juice and I don't have to add a sweetener.

  • If you like oats try the steel cut variety.  I add some vanilla when cooking. Soak them overnight and they cook in 5 min.

I also like having a glass of kefir in stead of milk.  Tasty and full of probiotics.

Eggs are my fav though.  They keep me from getting hungry again too fast.

Definiately go organic with as much as you can.

  • Plain greek yogurt, fresh or frozen berries (if frozen not packed in syrup), sprinkling of almonds or walnuts. Protein, fiber, good fats. Easy peasy. Can add a drizzle of honey if desired but I don't really find you need it.

You can also pre-make crustless quiches in muffin cups, they keep in the fridge or freeze well too.
