I've been working on a little name sign for Warner's room and have it finished for the most part. As you'll see I've created a 4"x6" card for each letter of his name with an illustration of an animal that starts with that name. (totally stole the idea from the land of nod) When it's done I'll print them and frame them in one of those 6 window picture frames.
Anyway, tell me if you think that:
a) it's too babyish for a toddler's room
b) the whale is too cutesy/smiley to go with the other animals that are a little more realistic.
Here is a link to a composite of each card.

I asked DH, but he didn't have much of an opinion and said this is the kind of thing I should ask a girl, lol.

it's beautiful!
I think it looks great and I don't think it's too childish for a toddler room. It'll help him learn to spell his name!
I would not have even thought about the whale if you hadn't mentioned it. I think it fits nicely with the others.
I love it. What a great idea.
I'm just wondering if I'm dumb because I can't figure out what N is. It looks like a shell or snail to me. Also, I'm thinking to maybe make the ants a bit bigger because at first, I thought it was just a little line and I was wondering why A didn't have an animal until I looked closer.
ETA: And no, I don't think it's too cutsey. I think it's perfect for a boy's room. Yes, I love the whale!lol...it's a nautilus. I had a hard time finding an N animal that I'd actually be able to draw or trace.
When it prints at full size the ants are pretty easy to see...they are about a 1/8" each.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!!!!!
LOL. Well, Warner will be smarter than me at age 2 because I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know what a nautilus was. I just looked it up on Wikipedia so I learned something new today! That makes sense about the ants because my screen was showing it much smaller than it would be when printed. The final product is going to look great.
First of all, it looks absolutely awesome. Fantastic idea and I wish I could be so crafty!
I was thinking the same thing...like what seashell starts with an "N"? But there really aren't a lot of options for animals that start with N. The only one I can think of is a newt.
I actually had to decide between newt and nautilus! but I knew that Warner would think that the newt was a lizard and I didn't want to think of Newt Gingrich when I looked at it :-)
