Hate being called "small"

I'm 5'11" and still pretty thin.  I know I haven't gained much weight, but baby and I are measuring just fine.  Woman ask when I'm due (in like 3 weeks) and say "you're not very big!"

Thanks for making me feel like a failure already!

I'm told this all the time.  I'm 5'2" and have always been thin.  My LO is developing right where she should be so I dont get upset when people tell me this.

It's all baby for me oh and boobs.

  • Take it as a compliment. You'd also be offended if you were told you looked huge.

I was told three times last week that I did not look 34 weeks with twins. It made my day each time.

Remember we all grow differently and carry of babies differently.

  • I WISH I had this problem!  Sad  I'm 5'8" with NO torso so I look HUGE!  Everything is shoved right up front!  I gained 21 lbs TOTAL with DD (and she was 8 lb 6.9 oz) and I'm at 22 lbs with this LO.  I was just told on Friday that I look like I could be having twins!  Surprise Not sure how 22 lbs looks like twins, but ok...I'm sure you're JUST FINE!  As long as your dr is not worried, you don't need to be!

  • I'm short and have a tiny torso so every comment I get is about how big I am.  I'm all belly but still.  I'd rather people tell me how small I am then be shocked that I still have four weeks left.  Someone (a man) actually asked me if I was having twins the other day.
  • I have the same problem with people telling me I look small. I am measuring right on track though. I know how you feel though, I feel like they are already thinking in there head I am a horrible mother.

  • I've been called small this whole pregnancy and didn't really like it...until the other day when the hubby and I went out to eat and the waitress asked how far along I was. I told her I had three weeks left and she said "Wow...Your HUGE!" Gee thanks..

  • People have been telling me this all the time, especially co-workers who saw me PG with DS. This time around I have gained less and I'm carry much differently. I know DD and I are both healthy and in fact she is measuring 2 to 3 weeks ahead....

  • I am 5'2.5" and am petite with a short torso and have a BIG baby bump. All I get all the time are comments like "are you sure you are gonna make it 5 more weeks?!" "Wow, that's a big belly", "Are you sure there is only one in there?". I went to a banquet last night where I was around a bunch of acquaintances I had not seen in  a while and I got sooo many comments. Mostly from men. I got a few nice comments about how I was "all belly" and looked cute pregnant. But most of the time, the negative comments outweigh the positive. I try to just smile and remember that people don't think before they speak :)

  • I think that most people think it's a compliment when they say that. Really, people just can't win. If they say "wow, you're huge" you feel like a cow. If they say "you're so tiny" some people feel like they're being called a failure.

I think the only acceptable thing to say is "You look great!"

  • I could have written this exact post. I am 5'11 as well and I haven't gained much weight. However, baby and I are doing just fine.

  • People have told me both that I look small and huge.  I think they just point out the small thing meaning it as a compliment.  It is certainly easier to swallow than someone saying you're huge.  I think my favorite expression people have said to me is that I'm "looking cute."  I might use that in the future when talking to other pregnant women.  "Love the cute baby belly!"

  • People have something negative to say regardless of how big/small you are. My doctor says my weight gain is right on track, but my belly sticks wayyy out in front and I get told I'm huge all the time. (I'm about 5'5' and 125 lbs pre-preg so I think I actually just look like I'm about to topple over) At this point, I just smile and say thanks. All I care about is having a healthy baby. :)

  • The grass is always greener I guess... I'm a whopping 5' tall on a good day and I'm sick and tired of being told I basically look like a whale. When I tell them I have 6 weeks left I feel like I need to help pick their jaw off the floor.

Agreed. You can't win with pregnant women.

  • Same here..... I feel huge, and everyone tells me how small I am. I will make a comment on how hard it is to do something and people will ask why... Ummm hello it's because now I have this huge hard belly that gets in my way. Just because I'm "all belly" doesn't make life any easier when dealing with day to day things. I think it is just as bad as being called huge, if not worse because I feel freaking huge!

  • Im exactly the same way. People tell me that at church when they ask if im due and even the last nurse i had at my appointment last week. It does suck, but in a way it helps me to think maybe it will be easier to get back down to my normal size after he is born.

YES! I'm so sick of how people treat pregnant women - "oh you're too big/small, gaining too much/too little, etc." No one would just walk up to a random non-pregnant person and comment on their size or weight!!!

As long as your baby is healthy and happy, that is all that matters - we all carry our LOs differently and the way your body accomadates your LO has NOTHING to do with what kind of mum you'll be!

  • People keep telling me I'm "small" when in fact I'm NORMAL (er...average). I measure exactly AVERAGE at every appointment, as has the LO. I definitely get a little rage-y, because apparently I'm doing everything right, and telling me I'm too small (or on those special occasions when people tell me I'm huge - thanks, random weirdos) makes me sound like I'm doing something wrong. As long as the baby is healthy and Mom is healthy, it doesn't matter if you're small or big, if you gain two pounds or sixty pounds, if you carry the weight all in your belly or if you look like you've grown an extra behind... Random people need to keep their mouths shut on this - it's not like you'd go up to a not pregnant person and comment on their weight. Only my doctor (and DH if he's careful about it) are allowed to tell me whether I'm big or small or whatever.
