2nd Birthday party...I need help please

A couple of questions.

What do you think about throwing a 2nd birthday on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30/3?

Also, we live in a small condo so having it at home less than ideal. We had his first party at a park nearby and it turned out great. We could have it there again this year, but that seems kinda boring. Anyone know of any great 2nd birthday party places in NoVa?

Arrgh. I'm starting to get all worked up already!

  • I think 3:00 is a good time. Lots of kids nap from 12-2-ish. A 3p start time would give people time to get their kids up and to the party by 3p.

We had DD's 2nd birthday party at Lee District Rec Center in Alexandria. They have a great soft playroom that you can rent by the hour. We did an hour in the soft playroom and an hour in one of the party rooms for snacks/cake/presents. It went really well and the kids had a blast.

If you want more of an all-inclusive party, where they do all the work and clean up for you, there's always My Gym or Little Gym.

  • Agree with PP - 2:30 or 3 is a good start time, right after nap.  I'm considering doing a birthday party at MoBu Kids in Falls Church, kind of like My Gym/Little Gym, with a play area and then a party room. My kids love their rock climbing wall.

  • A friend on Facebook just threw a 2nd bday party, and rented a Fun Bus - https://www.funbuses.com/home.html

Looks like after, they just went to their apartment for cake and goodbyes.  Kids seemed to get a kick out of it by the pictures.

  • I think 2:30 is a good time. Here's info on party rooms that can be rented in Fairfax county:

  • I think a park would be fun, you could bring balls, hula hoops, water guns, etc.

We did DD's 2nd at a playground and all the kids (we had upto age 7) loved it.

I would just mention on the evite if you are serving food or not, since it'd be after lunch time.

  • I think you should go with what is most convienent and best for your budget.  We just did DDs party in our home and she was just happy to be with other children, have tons of balloons and eat cake.  It doesn't take much to make a 2 year old happy.

  • We did a park for DS's 2nd birthday and will do it again this year too.  IMO, it's perfect for the age.  The kids are too little to really participate in any activities and don't really have the attention span for them when there are toys and cake and balloons and presents around.  A playground near where you're holding the party is the perfect spot for the kids to burn off some energy, interact if they want to, or do their own thing.  Regroup everyone for cake and then you're done!

DS's party was at 10:30 last year b/c he napped from 1-4.  This year, we're having the party from 11-1.  I'd go around your kid's nap schedule.  If 3 works for you, go for it!

  • i've heard wonderful things about the soft playroom at chinquapin. but it books early!

i also agree wtih pp, at 2, they don't really care where their party is. they are still sort of even oblivious that there is a party. when i was a kid, i had the same birthday party every year. my parents invited all my friends, threw us in the backyard with a kiddie pool and a hose. i have wonderful memories - though they often run together, since we did this each year!

i also want to say that this is just unacceptable that your small person is turning 2 and i haven't met him yet!!! which also means, i haven't seen you since your shower! and you haven't met my smallest person either! we must change this!

I know! We need to plan something soon. I'll email you some dates we're free.

  • Thanks for the tips!  I'm now trying to decide between one of the gym places or the park again. The park is not expensive but it was a lot of work and rain is always a factor. The gyms are expensive but don't require very much work. We may just have to flip a coin. Smile
