Success after IF

anyone here pg after a Luteal Phase Defect?

I am ovulating on CD 22 and have 30-31 day cycles. I go in for 7 DPO b/w this cycle (friday) and I know they are going to find low progesterone. I have tried b6 and it hasnt worked for me. If you have been diagnosed with a LPD, what did your dr do to correct it/help you achieve pregnancy? I am thinking prometrium/clomid is probably what is going to end up happening but was curious of the experiences of those that have been there.

Thank you so much!

  • Usually clomid to up the chance of quality eggs. then they'll see if the better eggs put off a good amount of progesterone. If not, then they'll add progesterone.

  • I think I have LPD but was never diagnosed.  I'd ovulate around CD14 but then get my period 10 days later.  I did IUI for my DS and IVF for this BFP (both with prog supp).  However, when we were just trying on our own, I asked my gyno for progesterone supp and they did extend my LP to "normal" range.

  • Your situation was the exact one that lead me to see my RE.  I tried B6 too and it only lengthened my LP for a couple of days and only for one month!  My RE felt like LPD was not just an issue at the end of your cycle, but one in the beginning too.  She felt like although I was Oing, I was doing it later in my cycle and so it was probably weak, therefore producing a shortened LP.

So, my first step was clomid and progesterone.  The clomid allowed me to O closer to cd13/14 and then the progesterone helped lengthen my LP.  I didn't get pregnant this way, but I really felt like it was the first time I even had a chance at getting pregnant.

Unfortunately, I had to go all the way to IVF to get pregnant.  I hope that isn't the case for you.  Good luck!

  • this is really a "chicken and egg" conversation. Your LP stinks b/c your ovulation is weak/poor. Fix your ovulation, and a nice LP will follow. Of course, support with vaginal prometrium, crinone or endometrium (IVF's add PIO).  I spent too much time trying to fix things on the back end, and once we finally looked at my ovulation, we realized that stunk 1st. lol.

GL ! often an "easy" fix is a little clomid or femera, but please be SURE you're being monitored while taking those meds (mid/cycle ultrasounds, E2 levels, etc. ) and even triggering the ready follie and doing an IUI, just to cover your bases. (if budget allows)

  • I have a really short LP as well....it's been as short as 2 DAYS. Ugh. I ended up going to the RE after 8 very short cycles (in 4 months) b/c of my LP issue & b/c my OB didn't want to give me the time of day to talk about it. Well, come to find out, we had MFI issues as well & my RE suggested going straight to IVF/ICSI, which is how I got pregnant with DD. However, I know that at my inital consult, he suggested doing clomid with monitoring (as Davez said) if the LP was my only issue...unfortunately, it wasn't. So, all of that is to say that I agree with going to someone who will monitor you while on these drugs. GL!
  • i had an LPD, was on progesterone for a couple of years before even starting TTC, then started TTC, added Clomid after just under a year, 4 rounds then had to try Injectables..first round worked! I was on progesterone supps each round..and through 12 weeks with the boys :)

    good luck!
