So I had my first IUI today. I was so sick this morning and thought that I wasn't going to make it because of my constant IBS. They didn't do b/w or u/s the day of the IUI, but had done it for days leading up to it . The IUI itself took a little longer than expected. They needed to use some sort of dilating speculum. It was just uncomfortable for a few minutes. Once it was over, I was fine. The good news is that my RE said that I have 5-6 eggs and since I have DOR, this was good news to me. In most cases of IF, I'm pretty sure 2-3 is a good amount, but since I'm new to superovulation, I'm not sure what the norm is for someone who does not have the same dx as I do. DH's sperm count was 12.5 million post washing. They said it's a good number, but I've heard of the number being a lot higher. My RE also told me to be really positive and talk to the embryos. I hope this does the trick!
Re: After IUI#1
My RE said he likes to have around 5 million post wash, so I'm sure you're fine. Did your RE tell you the motility b/c that has a lot to do with it as well?

Do you mean you had 5-6 mature follicles? Did your RE explain the health risks if all of those follicles release eggs that are then fertilized? If they didn't do an U/S how does your RE know whow many "eggs" you have? And what is s/he basing the "good news" of "30% chance of multiples" on? I can't imagine where s/he came up with that figure (its difficult to estimate the chance of getting pregnant with an IUI let alone the chance of multiples). I also can't imagine an RE thinking that an increased chance of multiples is "good news". Yes sometimes multiples happen but the risks are great and most REs I've spoken to certainly do not try for multiples. One RE told me "I consider myself to have failed if a cycle results in multiples".
Please make sure you are working with a reputable RE.
History of IF and 2.5 years TTC. The day we were to start our first IUI we received a call that changed our lives forever and 10 month old Olivia joined our family. Shortly thereafter we got a surprise BFP and baby 2 is due July 5, 2012
My RE didn't say it was good news about the multiples, I was the one who thought it was good news. I have DOR so even though I had 5-6 mature follies, they are probably not all good. She said I have an 18% chance of conceiving at all this cycle. I think I've been so jaded by IF, if I got pregnant with twins, I would consider that good news. I definitely understand about the health risks. I guess I'm just trying to be really positive. I was also very closely monitored for the entire week leading up to the IUI. Thanks for your concern.

That is a lot of follies for a first IUI, but like you said your RE feels that due to your diagnosis, there is a reason to go ahead. Your counts are good, so don't worry about that!
Others are definitely going to comment on the number of follies, but if you feel that your RE is being responsible and you all have weighed the risks of multiples I would say that is ok! (FYI I have triggered with 6 + mature, but we have Post wash counts of way less then 1 million and morph of 1-2% and that is the only reason we went ahead).
Try to think positive and hopefully it will all work out for the best! Good luck hun!
