Recommend your crib mobile...or did you use one?

We have the mobile that we bought for M's nursery (below), but he never really cared about it.  It's not very stimulating or interesting, but it did match the nursery decor (priorities?? Wink)  So, this time around I'm thinking we might want to invest in a better one that might actually soothe and/or entertain the baby.  Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Here's the one we have:

  • We have the tiny love one. Symphony in motion? Something like that. I like that you can leave the music part in the crib after you take te mobile down. Both of my kids play the music on their own when they wake up.

Same here. Ours was a fisher price jungle one and projects pictures onto the celing. It was actually a bigger hit once I took the mobile part off! She loves it still!

  • We never had a mobile, but have always had a music box that attachs to the side of the crib.  It is similar to this but I got it at the consignment shop for $ 8 I think.

DS loves it and turns it on himself now.

  • We have a Wendy Bellisimo lamb one, but I hung it over the chaning table.

  • We have that aquarium too. I had dreams that they would use it to put themselves to sleep. But both of them liked them more for partying after naps. Ben used to say he wanted to watch a show about fish. ;)

  • We had the Wendy Bellissimo one that came with the bedding (score on CL). Honestly, we hardly used it. I had something above her changing table and there was the PNP bear mobile (no music) in our room, so it just sat there looking pretty. Once she was able to stand, it had to be moved anyway. Now it's attached to the ceiling, but we never use it. I don't really think it's all that stimulating...sort of just something to look at. I've seen ones where you can do pictures of the family which might be pretty cool. E doesn't get to see her family all that often, so we keep pictures on a low shelf for her to look at and we talk about them.

With the one you have above, you could almost just keep the music part and the arm and make your own - I saw a few examples on Ohdeedoh if that helps.

  • Ours matched his nursery (monkeys) so a recommendation probably wouldn't do you any good, but I found it invaluable in the first few months.  He absolutely loved to look at it and it made him smile, so it was worth it in my book.
  • We also have a Tiny Love symphony in motion (but we have the old one in primary colors & shapes) the kids love it and still fight over it (while it is in their sisters bed)

This is a really good idea!  Particularly because I've detached all the animals that are on it and they are sitting on shelves in the room looking cute.  Hmmm....off to get more inspiration!  Thanks!
