Lately with the economy in the state that it's in, I've been hesitant to buy anything. I'm second guessing myself when buying items I don't need. As of know my family hasn't felt the effects of the slowing economy as far as our jobs but that can change at any point.
Has anyone else experience quilt when they buy something that is not needed? With Christmas around the corner. are you guys going to cut back?
Re: Buying Guilt
Yep. I feel guilty all the time but I try to make smart shopping choices. I can't remember the last time I bought something that was for myself- it's always for my kids. I've even started buying clothes at a local consignment shop rather than hitting the local shops- great finds there, too! But even doing that I feel a twinge of guilt. Sucks. I think a lot of my guilt is based on the fact that I'm a SAHM now and my husband works so hard for our family.
As for Christmas, yes we're cutting back. We decided we'd only spend about $50 on each other and only by a couple things for the baby since he's still too young to really understand (he'll be 8 months). Most of the money will be spent on our 11 y.o.
Yes, I'm the same way lately. Plus, I'm a SAHM now so DH is the only income provider at this point.
I was at Marshall's today and I saw a shopping cart cover for $19.95. I had been looking for one and I bought it but when I got home I started thinking... do I really need this or is it just nice to have? I'm pretty thrifty anyway so now I just try to be more conscious of needs vs. wants.
I don't feel guilty, but I've cut back. We moved recently and our financial situation is different. I may need to go back to work and I'm ready to, but we are not making any uneccessary purchases now.
I'm Christmas shopping early and paying attention to circulars whereas before I just bought when I bought and gave little thought to price. We're also not going nuts buying DD presents b/c we know both sets of grandparents will. I wish DH would just get me one thing maybe, but he'll still go nuts I'm sure.
