So dh proposed this name the other night, named after his grandpas sister. Not sure how I feel. My mother HATES our names and sends me name ideas daily. So far on our list is
Violet Elise,
Nyla Grace,
I would like more but dh vetos mist of them and for boys were at a loss.
Oh mom's suggestions are:
Hollis,
Griffin,
Rayna,
Cora, &
Lucy.
So would you add Luella to the list or keep hunting? I'm just not feeling any name girl or boy yet...
Re: Luella?
1. Rule out your mom's opinion. I assume she wasn't a part of the baby's conception; she doesn't get to be a part of choosing the baby's name.
2. Do you like Luella? If so, add it to your list. If not, veto it. It's just as much your child as it is your husband's.
Seriously, girl, grow a spine. This child is yours and your husband's! Work on compromising with him for a name you both like.
Not a fan of Luella. Nor am I a fan of any of your other names. Did your mom suggest Griffin for a girl...it's kinda lumped in there with girl names?
Keep looking...it'll come to you.
edit: and I agree...why does your Mom have a say? It should be a decision that you and DH make together. Tell her to back off if it bothers you. Put your big girl panties on.
I'm not a fan. Violet is NMS, but it's a nice name and my favorite from your list. I also love the mn Elise.
I agree with the PP...this is your decision and your H's...your mother doesn't have a say.

Our family blog
I love Luella, Violet and Lucy. Cora is sweet, but I don't love it.
Is that how the great aunt's name was spelled? I actually suggested Louella to another poster, and I like it when I say it aloud, but it's not really about what I like is it?
And I'd be careful about how much say anyone else besides you and your guy get. Remember...your parents are from a different naming generation. This article might hlep if want to read more about the whys of the dislike.

Here's sort of a reverse of that article, but still a pretty good read...

Luella makes me think of Cruella DeVille.
Violet is so overused but I think Violet Elise sounds pretty. I am on the fence with Nyla; too close to nylon. I like Nya however.
I don't like any of your mom's suggestions although I do know a woman named Griffin and it totally fits her.
Louella was my grandmother's name and we wanted to honor what an amazing woman she was, but didn't love the "Lou" part of the name. We named our daughter Ella, which has enormous meaning for us. However, we didn't realize what a popular name it had become until we had been calling her by name for several months. It hasn't ruined it for us, but it's definitely something to keep in mind if you're someone who doesn't want a more popular name. That said, I work with kids for a living and have only actually met two other Ellas in 5 years.
We're considering Adele, Cora or Clara for the new baby and would love to consider Violet if it had two syllables (all of our other kids have 2-syllable first names). Best of luck. Seems like you have great taste in names!
