Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Does your LO get sweaty at night?

DS' back (the part of him touching the mattress) gets really sweaty at night, even though his hands/feet/ears feel like he's the right temperature.  I know that newborns can't regulate their temperatures very well, but shouldn't he be better at it by now?

  • What kind of pj's is he in? G will get really sweaty if I put her in the fleece pj's but if I put her in cotton ones, a more breathable material she's fine

  • Mine does this exactly.  He's pretty sweaty a lot of the time though- like his dad.  I was planning to ask about it at his 4 month appointment next week.
  • Hmm... maybe it's the PJ's, i think most are a cotton-polyester blend.  I'll do 100% cotton for the next few days and see if it makes a difference.

Ashley - post something if your pedi says it's a problem!  DS is also really sweaty in general.  I couldn't get him to wear a hat all winter because he completely freaks out (by far the worst crying fits I've ever seen from him), and his head drips with sweat.  I know other  mommies gave me the side-eye at our mommy and me classes, but he gets overheated much easier than he gets cold!

  • Yep, he does.  We keep the temp turned down more at night because of this.  We have him in a cotton sleeper and then a cotton swaddle me.  But then I put a fleece part from a swaddle around his bottom half (he kicks like a mad man).

I sure will.  I also get major side-eye from other moms about the no hat thing.  But he is the same way- screams when I try to put one on and gets way too warm when he does have one on.

    This.

My kid sweats like he's exercising, especially while sleeping.  It freaked me out at first and I put him in lighter clothes, and I was checking his temperature constantly, but I finally just realized that he's like his dad, who ALSO sweats like he's running a marathon while he's sleeping.

I guess sleeping is just very intense for them.

    This made me LOL.

  • the best area to feel to see if he's the right temp is the back of his neck. It's okay if his hands are on the cool side if his neck feels okay. I'd try making it a little cooler in the room and changing his PJs, like pp suggested.
