Scoliosis

We just found out our daughter has severe scoliosis and will most likely need growth rods put in her back. She has been followed by an orthopedist for 2 years and they said it just showed up probably because of a major growth spurt. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the growth rods. Thanks,

    Peyton has scoliosis, Im not sure how severe it will be, but its on her lower back and was fairly noticeable, more so when she bends forward.  

    They thought she may of had a cyst there, so we did a spinal MRI, also to rule out a tethered cord.  She had a lipoma, but nothing that would cause the scoliosis.  

    My cousin has rods in her back, she was 13ish when she had the surgery.  I know it had it's risks & she couldn't have an epidural during childbirth bc of the rods.  Also, no trampoline..bike rids..or anything like that.  Where she could bend them.

    I'm sorry you are going through this, we may face it in the future.  

    Hopefully someone with a younger LO can give you incite.   

    DD1(4):VSD & PFO (Closed!), Prenatal stroke, Mild CP, Delayed pyloric opening/reflux, Brachycephaly & Plagiocephaly, Sacral lipoma, Tethered spinal cord, Compound heterozygous MTHFR, Neurogenic bladder, Urinary retention & dyssynergia, incomplete emptying, enlarged Bladder with Poor Muscle Tone, EDS-Type 3. Mito-Disorder has been mentioned

    DD2(2.5): Late term premie due to PTL, low fluid & IUGR, Reflux, delayed visual maturation, compound heteroygous MTHFR, PFAPA, Bilateral kidney reflux, Transient hypogammaglobulinemia, EDS-Type 3

    Hi my son had VEPTR surgery (kind of like growth rods but more flexible of a device) last summer for his scoliosis.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me at angela.cantrell@hotmail.com   I put the x-rays on his blog a little while after surgery - and a few pictures of his scars I believe.  His scars are already white and not near what I'd imagined.  It is amazing how straight he came out.
