Cord Blood - CBR or Via Cord?

Hi ladies,

If you are going to privately bank your cord blood, which company did you go with?  What made you chose one or the other company (good and bad), how much are you paying, are there any coupon codes?  Anything else I should have asked? 

I am a little late in the game but my ob told me there is still time.  TIA!

    We chose CBR for ds#1 and using them again this time around. When I did my research the 1st time around it really came down to a "feeling" (both companies offer the same services for same price). The CBR consultant I spoke with was really nice and took the time to explain things to me, called me to follow-up, etc. I just had a good feeling about them.

    The payments differ - there are new options for cell storage and you get a discount if you pay for the 18 yrs of storage up front - so it varies. You can see the rates right on their websites.

    We chose CBR too....They claim they have the highest cell recovery rate (who knows if this is true or not) but the main reason is that I worked as a nurse in L&D and I think their cord blood kit is easier for the patient to use. It has less paperwork and is just simple for the nurse, dr and patient IMO.

    we went with viacord.  the prices of both companies are comparable, and both frequently have a coupon floating around at your doctor's office or from referrals.

    We went with CBR for the reasons mentioned above.  I found a coupon code awhile ago on retailmenot.com (which is a fabulous coupon code website).

    We used CBR for both kids as a recommendation from my dr.  After my own research, I learned they were the largest or have the largest clientele which made me feel reassured in my decision.
