DD always wants to sleep on us, for naps, overnight, all the time. Today she was sleeping on my chest after she ate, and DH suggested we pull her pack n play out to the living room and put her down on her belly in there. She slept for 2.5 hours straight! She woke up, ate again, and went back down on her belly in her pnp and has been sleeping for the past hour and a half! I've gotten so much done today!!! I'm so tempted to put her down on her belly overnight...but too scared to actually do it. Sigh.
Anyone else's babies prefer tummy sleeping? And 2nd time moms actually let their babies sleep on their tummy overnight?
Re: Belly sleeping
This is something that even the experts go back and forth on. When I had my son seven years ago, it was tummy sleeping. When I had my dd four years ago, it was side sleeping and now it it sleeping on their backs that is best.
I am not that comfortable with tummy sleeping but if you want to give it a shot, no one will be there to haul you off to jail if you do. It is a recommendation, thats all.
I sleep my LO on his belly during the day, because he is getting a flat spot on the left side of his head, he has rolled himself on his side since day one. It kind of makes me uncomfortable to try it at night but at the same time I know that's how I was put down as a baby as well as my brother and my sister. As a pp stated it is constantly changing what the current sleeping recommendation is. If it is what works for you and makes it so you can get some much needed sleep, then sleep your LO on their belly, I'm sure I'm not the only one posting here that was put to sleep on their belly as a baby.
One thing I have always said is that SIDS is called SIDS for a reason, because they don't know the cause. Now that doesn't make it any easier for someone who has lost a baby to SIDS but honestly I don't think it is something you can really protect your child from.
