DH and I were discussing this the other day, and he brought up a good point that it's really just us that is coming home with baby and there is no real point in buying a 'special' outfit. We have plenty of 0-3 onesies and a little footed pj set that will work (I think) but I was just wondering if there is really a point of going out and buying a special outfit? Other than it's for us, and we can put it away as something special and all that. Part of me wants to still go out and buy something, but the practical part of me thinks that we have lots that will work just fine and still be meaningful.

Re: Coming home outfit
Funny - We have purple and blue dresses to take a few pictures in but our girls will be wearing their K-State gear home.
I bought a nice day gown as a "coming home" outfit. But honestly, it is just an outfit that I will put on LO to come home in, and then again when I choose, so long as it fits. Being Team Green I wanted to find something nicer than a onsie I could put on baby in the first few weeks. After that we will have sooooooooo many clothes from friends and family we wont know to do.
That did deserve that many o's. I saw the plastic tubs at my BIL's house, boy and girl, ready and waiting for when LO arrives, and I have many others coming from friends. So I figure a splurge on a white day gown to be worn by a boy or a girl can't hurt.
I agree. I am going to pick something cute - but not over the top pricey or dressy. But I'm still debating about what to choose. We live in Houston where it'll be hot!! I don't want her to be in something too warm and roast, but I also know babies have a hard time regulating their temp at first and should dress in something warmer.. Gosh. Too hard already!
I suggested to my DH that he pick out our LO's coming home outfit - mainly as something he can do that's special as a new daddy. He really liked the idea and has been spending some time shopping online (we have few options here in town) for the perfect little outfit for her.
I think it's sweet for him - but not necessary.
I just put him in my favorite onsie (SF Giants pattern). We took a couple pictures before we left the hospital and a couple pictures once we got home. Nothing fancy, maybe just your favorite or cutest little thing. Its purely for photo-ops. A plain onsie and your favorite blankie would work too I imagine.
My little guy was 5lb 7oz when we left the hospital so I put him in a cute little 0-3 sleeper and he wore it for his "monthly car seat pictures" up until 3 or 4 months. If it's special to you, it's special enough
with my son, I picked an outfit that I thought was super cute, and I knew he would wear it again. I just went through his NB sized clothes, and it totally brought an AWWW moment for me. He could care less, obviously.
I bought baby girl an outfit from Gymboree that I know she'll wear again too. https://www.gymboree.com/shop/dept_outfit.jsp?pick=NONE&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306257899&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524445994117&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395917465&bmUID=1300061199461&productSizeSelected=0&fit_type=
and if I find something cuter/different, I am ok with that.
