those who have outside babies...

If your baby was 8 pounds did they fit into newborn size?  I have 4 newborn size sleepers and some 0-3 mo gowns and such but I just looked at the size chart and it only goes up to 8 lbs...the doc seems to think my baby is between 7.5-8 lbs...should I wait to wash in case we need to return these?  I have been buying 3 mo things thinking that the baby wont last too long in nb sizes...but now I am second guessing and worried I dont have enough nb sizes or that I have too much and should wait to see if the baby even fits into them..

so confused...TIA!

  • I have a 9 pounder and she fits into most newborn stuff.  Definitely the Circo (Target Brand) and Carter's.  Gerber might be a little tight.  It is confusing because it varies SO MUCH from brand to brand.

DS is 7lbs 13oz and like pp says circo and carter nb size fits him just fine(although probably not for long) but gerber and some other brands are super tiny.
  • We didn't have a lot of newborn because we were told we wouldn't need it. DS was 7lbs 4oz at birth, but dropped to 6lbs 9oz. DH made a Walmart run to pick up some NB sizes once we got home. The Carters (or maybe Gerber) onesies he got fit true to size, but he also picked up a couple Walmart brand and they run a little big.

  • The Gerber onesies are sitting there... I haven't tried them yet.  They look pretty stretchy - maybe I will try one tomorrow... just remind me.

  • I remember being told with DS not to get any newborn stuff because they grew out of that size so quickly.  He was 7lb, 5oz and swimming in his clothes for the first month or so.  This time around I got about a week worth of newborn stuff in hopes that DD will be about the same size.

  • Landon is 8 pounds now, and the Gerber 0-3 tees with mittens are getting small on him.

When he was born (6lb 15 oz), they were huge on him.

  • DD was 7-11 and newborn swallowed her. She is now 7lbs 13oz and of course they still swallow her.

  • DS was born at 8 pounds 3 ounces. I only had a few newborn pjs and outfits because I didn't think I would need them. But the newborn stuff is what he fits in the best. The 0-3 clothes is huge on him!

  • It is really going to depend on your baby. They were guessing Benjamin would be 8.5-9lbs, so I had two newborn size outfits. He ended up being 7.5, but apparently has a tiny body. I had to go out and buy him a hole NB size wardrobe. He still sims in everything 0-3 size. The gowns are fine since they don't need to fit really. All the brands of NB size fit him just fine still as he approaches 8lbs. and even over cloth diapers.
