Bad Timing

So this post is more of a vent than anything... I am just so frustrated and sad! I am 39 weeks 4 days.. and due on Tuesday. For the last couple of days I have been feeling pressured to have LO because my fiance is in the Marines and will not be here for the birth, so my mom took 2 weeks off work to come to town and stay with me since I am all alone with no family here. So I wanted to have LO as soon as she arrived! Now, my grandfather (my moms dad) who has been fighting cancer for a couple years now has taken a turn for the worse and isn't expected to make it through the next 2 days. I live in WV while my mom is from Ohio and my Grandpa is in FL. I feel bad and don't want to be the reason my mom never sees her father alive again.. so I told her to fly down and be with him. NOW i am feeling like I need to hold LO in for at least another week. I have friends here but I really don't want to be without any family when I have this baby! And I know my mom doesn't want to miss the birth of her first grandchild. And to top it all off I will most likely not be able to attend my grandfathers funeral because I will either still be pregnant or in recovery!

  • How frustrating Sad I can relate to not having your SO there for the birth because mine is also deployed and won't be present, but that was really generous of you to have your mom go see her dad. I'm sure she'd love to be at the birth, but saying goodbye to her dad will mean a lot and then she will have plenty of time going forward to enjoy her new grandchild... good luck trying to wait a little longer to deliver!
  • Sometimes your baby can sense when you're not entirely ready and will hold off coming.  You're not at 40wks yet so just focus on the fact that many first babies come after their due date.

Also the hormones needed for labor to proceed (Oxytocin) don't do well when the stress hormone (adrenaline) is present so this situation may be enough to help you keep LO in.

Good luck and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
