acetaminophen for a diaper rash????

I called our pediatrician's weekend line to ask how much acetaminophen to give my 7 month old and if it was okay to use for a diaper rash.... the lady told me not to use it before age 2.  I am so confused because her baby well check sheets say give acetaminophen for discomfort... what to do???

    Our pedi gave me a dose chart he created for both tylenol and motrin that goes by weight ... as the medication is labeled for 2 years and up.

    I wouldn't give acetaminophen for diaper rash (unless the rash was caused by teething).  I would just clean and dry the area, put on balmex (or something similar) perhaps mixed with a little antibiotic cream, and then finish off with some talc.  That will sooth the discomfort and help the rash heal.  Also letting your child go naked a bit will help a lot.

    You need to call your Pedi back, as there IS a proper dosage for your child.  That said, the diaper rash needs other attention- not Tylenol.  Do you have a rash cream you can put on it?

    update:

    At the time I posted this question I had already been letting her roam naked and been giving her baths.  I did put some diaper cream on during naps with a loose diaper but just tried to give her bum air time.  but she was so uncomforable and fussy and this baby doesn't ever cry! so i knew she was having a really hard time.  anyway, this nurse kept telling me that she couldn't take tylenol!!! and i even called back to ask another nurse and the same nurse interrupted the call and told me to bring my baby to the emergency room because some diaper rashes need antibiotics.  I told her I wasn't bringing her to the emergency room and she asked me to keep her in the loop.  so when my daughter ended up having diaharea again I called and she told me to go straight to the er.  when someone tells you your kid needs the emergency room it's hard not to go.  so yeah, we went to the emergency room for a diaper rash yesterday.
