After quite a rollercoaster ride, Levi Alexander arrived on March 10, 7lbs 2oz, 20 inches!
I didn't sleep very well Wednesday night and kept waking up with back pain. At about 3:45 I went to lay on the couch to see if it would be more comfortable. Right away I noticed that I was having contractions every 5 minutes. After about an hour of regular contractions, I woke my DH up and took a shower to make sure they weren't going away. They were still there so after finishing getting ready we called the Dr. I hadn't been timing them exactly the whole time I was getting ready so I told her they were 5 minutes apart. She told us to wait an hour to see if they got closer. I immediately noticed after hanging up with her that they were more like 3 minutes apart. So we decided to get Noah up and took him to my parents house. By that time an hour had passed so we called again and she ok'd us to come to the hospital.
When I got to triage I was already 6cm after being at 3cm on Wednesday at my appointment. They took me right to L&D and took blood immediately so they could check my platelets. Luckily they were good and I was able to get an epidural pretty quickly. Unfortunately after about 2 hours I started feeling a lot of pain. The anesthesiologist tried to give me more meds but nothing was working. I was 8cm at that point. He tried a couple more things but basically said where I was feeling my pain (really really low) couldn't be relieved by the epidural if it wasn't working with the meds he had already given me.
Soon my OB came in and I was almost 10, she saw how much pain I was in and basically demanded that someone fix my epidural or I wasn't going to even be able to push. A second anesthesiologist came in and discovered that my epidural had been pulled out just enough that it wasn't working. So he tried to do a second one, it took him 5 tries or so but he finally got it and it quickly relieved the pain I was having. My hat goes off to anyone who goes completely natural, I did 3/4th's of it natural and I never want to do it again!
Quickly after that I was at 10. They had me sitting up really straight for awhile to get him as low as possible to give me my best chance at a VBAC as possible. At 1:15 I started pushing and he arrived at 2:33pm! It was the most amazing thing ever and I'm so glad I didn't give in to any pressure to get the repeat c-section.
Unfortunately after getting to recovery I started developing a spinal headache. I couldn't sit up for more than 5 minutes without terrible pain. So I spent the whole afternoon laying flat. They tried some meds to fix it but nothing worked, so they set up a bloodpatch for Friday. It was a very painful procedure but luckily took away the really bad headache right away. It's just been a dull ache since then.
We got to come home today. Noah's quite interested in, he keeps asking what baby Levi is doing and just wants to stand there watching him I can't believe I have 2 boys!
Re: Levi is here!
Wonderful for you! Hooray! Welcome Levi!
(Does your OP say he arrived on March 20th or did I hallucinate that?)
