Not getting a changing table...

I really don't have the room for a full on changing table, and I really don't think they are incredibly necessary... my mom even told me that she never used hers when she had my brother and I because she would change us wherever we were at the time... whether it have been on the floor or a bed...

But now I'm thinking I should get something....  is anyone not getting a changing table but using something else (that doesn't really take up space)  I can't put use a dresser either because the furniture I bought for LO is pretty tall...

Thanks in advance!

  • I don't have room for a large change table either. What I've looked into is a Rail Rider. It's basically a flip down plastic change table that attaches to your crib and you pop on top when it's change time. Just Google it and you'll see what I mean :)

  • I used the changing pad on DS's PNP until he was to big, then put a changing pad on the floor.  Changing table is worthless IMO
  • The only reason we are using a changing table this time around is because we still had it for DS, and the shelves on it are good storage for diapers, wipes, lotion, powder, etc.  I used it with DS until he was about three months old and then just gave up on it.  I would change him on the floor on one of those activity mats, or just on a changing pad.  If you have a limited amount of space, it's definitely not something I would worry about.

  • You could always put a changing pad in the bathroom on the counter, or in the Kitchen.  I have to have a changing table for the height, bending down to the bed or the coffee table in the living room is killer on my back!

ETA:  I found the picture below, I don't think it is sold anymore. But, do you know someone who could make something similar out of wood? and attach a changing pad to it?  Just an idea.

  • I really think this is something you can live without. If you have one, would you use it? Probably. But, if you don't have one, you will just make do with what you have.

I always used it at night after bath time, and that was pretty much it. The rest of the day, we just did changes where ever we were like you said.

  • I found a solution!  Some of you said to just put a pad somewhere... so I looked around my bedroom and realized if I put the cable box under the tv, I would have enough room on my dresser for a pad.... I could clear out one drawer and put supplies in there!  I think that will be alright, and if anything... the bed or floor will come in useful!  Thanks for the ideas...

BTW... I looked into that rail rider thing... the back of my crib is higher than the front so it wouldn't work for me!  Thanks again ladies!

  • There is a changer attachment on our pack and play and we might use that when she is a newborn, but I've never changed a baby on a changing table. I will just be using the floor or the bed for the most part. There was a changing table attachment for the dresser we got, but we dont plan on using it for that purpose.

  • I'm getting one because bending over that way on the floor 10 times a day will KILL my back....but I already have hip/back pain, and I won't be able to physically change baby on the floor. If you can, then that's great! :)
  • I use mine all the time but have friends that never used theirs.  My daughter stays still on the changing table but wiggles so much on the floor or bed, now that we are moving her the changing table is not in her room so she will get used to the bed or floor.  Its a preference thing.
