I need ideas ladies...goodie bags for DS' first birthday

DS' bday party is on March 26.  We're doing a tiger theme since he was born in the year of the tiger.  What should I put in the goodie bag?  If I can find it one of the item will be a tiger beanie.

Thanks.

  • Call me a Negative Nelly, but I am SO anti-goodie bag.   How in the world did it become expected to give your party guests gifts?

    It's Thomas' special day.. he gets the gifts.  Any little ones who protest and demand a gift need to have that explained to them.   I want to lead the charge of reining in Goodie Bag madness.

    That being said (and I'm off the soapbox), OrientalTrading.com probably has cute little tiger trinket stuff.

    I'll tell you a lot of the goodie bag stuff gets chucked.  From experience.  And I'm the one who went overboard on them so let's just say karmic lesson learned as I chucked ones DD got.  If you want to get something, maybe JUST a tiger beanie animal and that's it.  If you really want to do it, it can vary on the ages of those attending but ideas are:

    *  stickers

    *  bubbles

    *  crayons/sidewalk chalk/etc.

    *  snacks of some sort -- goldfish, mini nilla wafers or whatever

    *  little bottle of water

    *  socks from dollar bin

    *  bibs

    If you want to stick with the tiger theme, look for stickers, do animal crackers (tigers are in there), water (tigers drink it), tiger print things like slap bracelets.

    We had a tiny birthday party for Matt's first and I only did goody bags for adults. His was a bear-themed party and I put gummy bears in little boxes.

    Maybe give out animal crackers? I think those include tigers. Target sometimes has little books in their $1 bin. Maybe they have something Tiger themed?

  • Mini boxes of Fr
  • A tiger cookie? A tiger tee shirt? Various things with tiger stripes?

    That's an awesome idea. I can't wait to see pics :)

  • I vote animal crackers!
  • I'm not sure how many people you're having but when my son turned one, we had about 6 kids (mostly adults came but these were the kids of two of my closest friends and then his three cousins).  In any case, I did individualized goodie bags with things that I knew would be used.  One friend was 9 months old so I bought her some puffs and a new sippy cup.  His cousin who was two received a new elmo camera and some goldfish.  In all, I spent about 8 dollars on each child (which I was fine with) but at least I knew I purchased things that wouldn't get chucked!

     Remember - you can decorate the bag or the box that you put it in to keep up with the theme even if you can't find/dont' want to find tiger stuff.

    Good luck!

  • For my son's 1st b-day our theme was mail trucks (he loved them!) and postal mail. We had 4 or 5 kids at the party and I did goody bags for all, but kept it simple. The bags themselves were basic paper handled bags from a craft store adorned with a sticker that looked like a stamp, then the child's first name w/ city and state below it (like an envelope address). Inside IIRC, there were: box of animal crackers, pack of goldfish crackers, bottle of bubbles, board book from Target dollar spot, little boat bath toy. There was 1 infant and in her bag, I replaced the boat with a teething toy and instead of the bubbles, I put a pack of 2 bowls (again dollar spot) in.

    Basically, none of the stuff inside related to the theme. I just tried to include stuff the kids would like. If I were you, I'd use tiger stickers or something as decor on the bag, and just get whatever the kids would enjoy for inside. And, you don't have to get a ton of stuff.

    Tiger lily bulbs for the adults!!  You can buy a bag for fairly inexpensive, and then split them into 1-2 bulbs.   Then people will think of your little one when it blooms!

    Look out if they have cats though - that's renal failure waiting to happen (sorry to be a downer).

    The dollar aisles at Miacheal's, Jo-Ann fabrics, and Target would be cheap and easy places to start.

  • I don't like goodie bags, personally, because everything gets thrown away. I have 7 and 9 year old stepdaughters and their bags get tossed the minute they turn around :) For Jace's party, I just made large sugar cookies and iced them. Cute, fun and no waste :)
