So I have been having so many issues with pain the last 2-3 weeks. And not normal pain from pregnancy (I understand that you have to deal with some issues being pregnant DUH!) Well The other night I woke up at midnight in so much pain that tylenol w/ codeine didn't even take the edge off. I decided I needed to call the on call and figure out if I should go to er or deal with it. She made me decide and since I live 45 mins away from the hospital, I dealt with it.
The next day I called and went into the OB. He sat me down and told me he doesn't think anything is wrong and I need to learn to deal with pain or labor will suck. When I mentioned I have a HIGH tolerance for pain, he laughed at me and said yea right. The pain is in your head. When I was leaving the office, he told me to not call the after hours line anymore because they would appreciate it. (I have called 3 times my entire pregnancy, two of which have been because of this pain!)
I am not sure if I can switch drs this late in the game, but I needed to vent. My PCM told me to not call him anymore, and go to the er from here on out! What would you all do??
Re: Eff You OB!
exactly. that is really not acceptable
THIS!! and BTW he cannot legally tell you that, you can sue them for refusal of treatment!!! That is SO effed up!
what hospital in CT do you go to?
that is crazy that they would say that.
Switch doctors. Start making calls Monday morning.
You deserve a doctor interested in your care. Pain isn't something that is "all in your head" - that's what doctors say when they're not smart enough to figure out what is actually happening.

I know the feeling!! My OB's RN told me and I quote "to suck it up". Never in my life have I wanted to smack a woman so bad. I've been to the er several times and it turned out I had a really bad bacterial infection and Im at risk to have her early. I'm in the same boat to where it's almost over and I dont want to have to find a new Dr. Or I would.
Put your foot down and let them know that this is really important to you...its the birth of your child! And let them know they are there to help and assit you. Not give you grief.

My doctors are horrible too if it wasn't such a head ache for me to change I would.
If I were treated the way you were, I would deal with the head ache just to be rid of it all.

what an arrogant SOB!
where do you currently go? I can recommend mine in CT.
Are you seen at an MTF? Do you have Tricare Prime or Standard? I have Prime and have to go to an MTF, that's why I haven't changed, even though my doc's all have horrible reputations and I am not comfortable with any of them.
Wow. This guy became a doctor WHY, exactly? I'd switch, and I'd write a scathing review about this D-bag on Yelp.
Find a new doc, stat! (sorry, bad pun.)
Good luck!
Justbeyourself- I go to Westerly RI, but I live in SE CT.
Theaustins- Sounds bad, but what in the world is MTF? We have the NACC which is the Naval Ambulatory Care Clinic and if it is the same thing than no. The NACC doesn't have any specialty doctors besides pediatricians. I get sent into town. I have Prime, so I get some pick, but you know it isn't always the best...
MTF= Military Treatment Facility, here its Beaufort Naval Hospital, sounds like your NACC. Since I have Prime and we have an MTF with OB's they are preferred by Tricare and free, but I think if I go down to the Tricare office and tell them I want a new doc I can go out in town, but I might have to pay co-pay, I'm not sure.
Here we only have the general primary care, so we have to be referred out in town without any co-pay. I will find out in the morning if I can get a new doctor!
Good Luck!
