Parenting after 35

Recommend your diaper bag

I've had the JJ Cole messenger-style bag from BRU since Adrian was a newborn, but it hasn't held up well at all, it looks like it's 100 yrs old already! I love their designs but I can't justify spending another $60-70 if it doesn't last long.

Who loves their diaper bag? I need one that's not too big and I can hook onto the stroller handle. The JJ Cole one came with stroller handle loops, which I loved. I wonder if I can call the company and complain about the short life span of this bag, maybe they'll send me a new one or give me a discount.

TIA!

  • I liked my skip hop Dash bag, but I LOVE my new jujube BFF.  The skip hop is sturdy, washable, not very pricy as far as these things go, and has a good assortment of pockets.  The BFF is teflon, cute, easy to organize, has insulated sippy/bottle holders, and a light-colored interior.

I hope you get a good solution!

I am cheap.   Horribly horribly cheap.

I use two of those freebie bags I got in the hospital from Simulac.  One for diaper stuff.  The other for food stuff.   And if I need to travel light, I just stuff the necessities in one bag and hope I can get it shut.

But I actually like the small nsulated izipper bags that came with it for keeping things cold.  They're the perfect size for bottles, jars etc

  • I LOVE my "diaper bag". I don't think it's technically a diaper bag, but it fits everything and has lots of convenient pockets. The great thing is that you can customize the fabric that you want. It is a bit pricey (around $200), but it's super-well made and I can use it as a regular bag after I have retired it as a diaper bag. For me, if it's well made and I love it then I don't mind spending the $$$. It's made by 1154 Lill in Chicago.

It doesn't have stroller bar clips but I adjust he strap and hook it over the stroller handle. Works just fine.

  • I use the bag we got from the hospital every day and it still looks great. And it was free. It works fine, enough space for everything, compartments for everything you need. I am not picky though, I am not a purse person so wasn't interested in an expensive/fancy diaper bag.

  • I had a JujuBee packabee that we used for a long time but it's small-ish. We use a DiaperDude now and love it.
  • I started with the JuJuBe BeSpicy bag ($150... why did I do that???) and it was good when Aaron was smaller. But now that I carry toys around, I got a Skip Hop Via Backpack.  I really like it with one proviso?it's already fraying after only 7 months.

But I got it on Gilt for $30 and I had a $25 credit for referring someone... so for $5, I can handle the fraying.

Yup, I am cheap too and I don't even feel it's flameworthy. Big Smile

  • We just use a regular ol' backpack. I have a purple JanSport one that I used in college at some point that got pressed into service because it's just the right size. We also have one from Eastern Mountain Sports that we use for overnight or weekend trips. It's larger and has more pockets.

IMO, standard diaper bags kinda suck. It's sooo nice to have hands-free with a backpack.
