When do you start a bed time routine?

I really want to start a bedtime routine, but did know it was too early.  His cord just fell off a day ago, so we are going to give him his first bath tonight... What are your bedtime routines and when did you start them?

Re: When do you start a bed time routine?

  • Right now he has a loose routine, but he sort of created it himself. He likes to sleep around the same times and be awake around the same times and he always wakes up in the night at 2-3 and 4-5! It doesn't seem to matter how much he drinks or what time is the last time he eats!! I think I am going to develop a little more structure to the day when he gets past his 2 month appt and see what the dr says. Right now she said to feed him as much as he wants! So that is easy.

  • I guess I should have put a bedtime routine..  Opps!  sorry I left that out by mistake.  We feed on demand, normally about every 2-3 hours.

  • Our doctor said that they can recognize a pattern and routine as early as 2 months.  ELise has a loss routine now but, i have tried to follow her lead.
  • We started ours around 5 weeks. We bathe her around 9:00 pm with lavender body wash, feed her, then she's usually out by 10:00-10:30 until 4:30 am. Lately she's been sleeping about an hour longer but she's also 8 weeks now.
  • We started one when it was obvious that she was starting to set her own bedtime. It was right around 6 weeks. I take her into her bedroom and get her diaper changed, lotioned up, pajamas on. I turn a lullaby CD on and then sit in the rocking chair while I feed her her last bottle. Halfway through the bottle I get her all swaddled up.

We start the bedtime routine between 7 and 7:30 and she's usually sleeping a half hour later.
