San Diego Babies

Venturing over with a question

Hi. I'm a bumbie from the Chicago area, but we'll be visiting San Diego at the end of the month.  DH is racing in Califorinia 70.3 in Oceanside, and we're staying near Lego Land. We have a few extra days and were trying to figure out what to do. Our dd will be just about 14 months while were there.

Just looking for suggestions, ideas, places to eat, etc. Also, dh has a commitment one of the days were there, and part of another, so it will be just dd and I, what would you suggest dd and I do?

We were debating about going to Disneyland for a day, but we're still torn on that, not sure how many things dd would really care about, and I'm wondering if it would be more stress then enjoyment.

Thanks so much for any suggestions, tips, etc, I appraciate it.

Oh, and what as the weather been like? I'm ready for some sunny, warm temps!

  • There is tons of stuff for you to do with DD. The beaches and the San Diego Zoo are great. LegoLand has an Aquarium in addition to the park or you could go to Sea World. Disneyland definitely has some rides that you could take DD on, but she might enjoy the other places more at that age (and you might enjoy D-Land more on a day when DH could go with you). Oceanside has a Ruby's Diner (50's themed) at the end of the pier. The weather has been beautiful this week, but we have gotten quite a bit of rain this year, so it's hard to say what the end of the month will be like. I'm sure you will have a couple nice days and it will be great compared to Chicago winter!

  • there's not a lot of rides at legoland for super small children. 36" and under can only ride like, 3 or 4 rides in the whole park. There are a load of good rides... but only a few suiteable for small children. My kids are very tall, and my daughter was only tall enough to ride more than 3 or 4 rides just now- and she's ALMOST 3, but the size of a 4yr old. It might not be the best choice unless you wanna do the same rides over and over. It is nice for a warm day, but even if you spend 40 min doing every activity your girl can do, you'll be out of there by 2pm if you start at opening.

I'd try the beach (provided Japan doesn't send us any tsunamis) or the strawberry fields near Legoland. Or if you want to drive to San Diego, there are lots of playgrounds, museums, indoor play areas, and things like that to do.

Where are the strawberry fields at?? We're staying right by LegoLand, Carlsbad Golf Course, and the outlet mall. So these fields should be right there as well, do you know the street, or something that would point me in the right direction?

    Thanks so much!!

  • I would suggest the san diego zoo or wild animal park or seaworld. I have heard legoland is small, overpriced and boring after about 30 minutes from several of my friends that have taken their LO's there, especially since she is still so young I don't think she can go on many of the rides there.

The weather has been hit or miss, the beginning of spring tends to be cloudy and rainy but then random blocks of days its 75 and sunny so you never know.
