We are trying to get our 16 month old daughter to give up her bottle for night time. Its her security blanket. Does anyone have any good ideas to get rid of the bottles?
We finally got rid of it at 22 months. It was like a security blanket to my DD too. We gave her a sippy cup of water to hold while reading stories, and she can take it in bed with her (milk/bottle was not allowed in the crib). She kind of looked for her bottle the first night, but the 2nd night, it was forgotten. We put away the bottles, and I still cannot take them out now. DD2 has different kinds of bottles. We did try earlier, at like 17 months, but she was not having it, but it could be that we had a 1 month old as well. Good luck.
We went cold turkey. It was the only time she was getting a bottle and one night we just didn't give it to her. We put the milk in a sippy instead and she drank it.
I introduced a short play time between the bottle and going to bed to break the bottle/sleep time association. It's worked for about 2 weeks now and I think I could probably switch this last bottle for a sippy at any time now...It also seemed to help her go to sleep on her own better. Since starting this I just set her down in the crib and she's completely gone in 5-10 minutes at most.
