C section questions...

Does the dr usually just cover the staples with a covering? Will the allow you to apply like a c section belly band right away or do you have to wait? How long do they usually leave the cath foley in? How long till they let you walk?

Re: C section questions...

  • My doc used steri strips not staples, but the whole incision area was covered with a bandaged for the first 24 hours. The cath was in for about 12 hours and I was able to walk as soon as it was removed.Hth

  • C sections suck. I had staples that were in for about 1.5 weeks. The dr removed the bandage after about 48 hours. I went way too long without a shower! Ugh! The catheter was removed after about 24 hours I think. IDK why it took so long. I tried to stand about 8 hours after my section but was dizzy so I didn't walk for about 16 hours. I was able to stand and pivot and get into a wheelchair to see Zoe in he nursery though. She has low blood sugar and had to be on a glucose IV drip for a few days. :(

I also devolped awful shoulder about about 4 days after as a result of trapped air. OMG, worse pain than the c section!

I had internal disolving staples with steri strips on the outside.  The steri strips came off after 10 days.  My dr. gave me a support belt to wear while getting up however, it was too painful to wear over my incision.  I had my section 12 noon and the next day the cath was out at 6am.  I was up and walking the halls 6 hours after my section.  The faster you can get up and move the easier the recovery...atleast that's what I found.

  • My staples were covered until the third day and then I got them removed on day 4 when I went home. I was wrapped in the belly band right away- the catheter was only in for one day and I walked the same day I had the c-section. (C-sec at 7:43AM and I got up to go to the bathroom with help at 9PM that night)

Recovery has been going great- I'm a week and 1 day PP and feel really good. Still sore but that's expected. I move around a lot easier now. The second day is the worst- just like they say. GL!

  • I had dermabond, not staples.  I started wearing my belly binder yesterday--it really helps give you some support.  You just have to watch so it doesn't rub your incision.  They took the cath and everything out about 16 hours after I gave birth.  As soon as you get disconnected from all of that they encourage walking.
