Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Did your newborn wear NB or 0-3?

If anyone could share what size their newborn wore in the hospital and following weeks and how much they weighed that would be great. I'm trying to figure out what sizes she'll need when she's a newborn. She's estimated to be on the large side, like 8+ lbs. (as both me and DH were), so I'm wondering if she will even fit into NB sizes. Thanks!!

Re: Did your newborn wear NB or 0-3?

  • My DD was 9lbs 6oz and never fit into NB sizes, she wore 0-3 straight from the hospital.  HTH

LO was 6lb8oz and nb sizes were big on him!  Now he's 7lb11oz and nb sizes fit him perfectly.  Hope that helps!

  • DD was born 8lb 2oz and can still wear some NB things.  She's now 9lb 14oz and has just now been able to somewhat wear 0-3.

  • Both DH & I were 8+ lbs at birth and we ended up with a 7lb 11oz baby (born at 41 weeks), so I'm not sure whether your estimation will be all that accurate. BUT, to answer your question, our LO fit into NB clothes for ~1 month (from 7lbs-9lbs). He was able to wear some 0-3 month clothes depending on the brand - BabyGap, for example, seems to run a bit smaller.
  • She weighed 7 lbs 8 oz at birth and went home weighing 6 lbs 11 oz. Sheaves still in newborn clothes - last time she was weighed was this Monday and she was 7 lbs 13 oz.
  • DD was 8 lbs, 4 oz at birth and fit into NB clothes for probably three weeks.  At her two week appt, she was 8 lbs, 14 oz and at four weeks, 10 lbs, 2 oz.

  • 10lb 8oz - 0-3 size clothes - 1 size diapers. Hospital had a hard time finding any diapers larger than newborn size, might want to bring some.
  • My DS is now 8 pounds and newborn stuff mostly fits him. It's the length of a lot of it that makes things hard to fit -- sleepers have to be just the right length, and every brand is different.

Carter's sells some onesies + pants combos where the pants have feet - I wish we had more of them, because it makes it easier to fit different lengths of babies, and also means you don't have to deal with socks that won't stay on their tiny feet yet.

  • Tyler was 6lb 14oz and wore NB. He is now 7lb 9 oz and still in NB. They are just now starting to fit him perfectly at almost 5 weeks. 0-3 is huge on him still.

  • Hadley was 6lbs 15 oz and wore NB until she was about 5 weeks old.  She is just now (at 10 weeks) filling out her 0-3.
  • DS weighed 7 10 and NB fit for about a month or so.  FYI, I bought a bunch of white onsies in NB and 0-3.  Gerber NB and 0-3 are basically the same size, and they run small.

  • DD2 weighed 8lbs, 6oz at birth and now weighs 7lbs, 6oz. She's wearing NB and they fit pretty well from the start.

  • DD weighed 8lbs 4 oz at birth, is now 9lbs 7oz (according to my scale at home...) and is still in Carter's NB clothes.  Sleepers are getting a little short, but they still fit.  Gerbers NB doesn't fit and hasn't since the first week - even though she lost a considerable amount of weight!

    HTH!

  • Avoid the Gerber clothes because they're sized too small... DS was born at 8 lbs 1 oz, and NB clothes fit him fine. He didn't wear them for long though... honestly, he was swaddled or in recieving blankets for the whole first week anyway; didn't wear much until after that.

  • Thanks Ladies! This helps a lot. The reason for my estimation was at our 33 week growth ultrasound they estimated her at 6.7 lbs. I know these can be wrong though, so who knows!

  • DD was 8lbs 11 oz and she fit into NB clothes fine; she will be 1 month on Monday and she can still wear most of her newborn clothes although they are starting to get snug. She still swims in her 0-3 month clothes.

  • 8 lbs 7 oz at birth, wore NB for a few short weeks (maybe 3). Really the Carter brand was the only one to last any significant amount of time.

0-3 fit pretty good up until almost 13 pounds.

  • At 2 months DD is still in NB she weighed 6lbs 8oz and 20 inches long. I'm not sure what she weighs now, we go to the pedi on mon.

  • DS weighed 6 lbs 12 oz and is now 8 lbs 3 oz, and has mostly outgrown his NB stuff and is on 0-3 month stuff.  But of course the sizes vary greatly by brand.  Carters runs big and he can still wear his NB stuff from them

Pretty much this. Our DD was 9 lbs 5 oz, but the same thing for sizes. She's 6 weeks and has outgrown 3 month footed sleepers except for a few from Carter's. She was also wore size 1 diapers starting in the hospital.

  • Clara weighed 6lbs 15oz at birth and she is 8lbs even now.  She's still in her nb clothes and most brands of 0-3 month are huge on her.  We were anticipating she'd be bigger, but our growth ultrasound was a bit off and she was 10 days early.

  • Lucas was 7lbs (still is, just got back to his birth weight) and is wearing nb. We had him in 0-3 in the hospital because of the security tag on his stump, but his coming home outfit was nb.

  • DD1 was 8lbs 14oz and DD2 was 9lbs and neither one of them fit into NB. They went straight to 0-3.

  • DS was 7 lbs 7 oz, 20.5" long and wore NB for about 2 weeks, then he outgrew them in length.
